I was driving on the highway and attempting to change lanes, I pulled down my turn signal yoke to engage the signal and changed lanes - approx 500 yards later I was pulled over by a state highway patrolman who explained that I never signaled when I changed lanes. After assuring him that I did we explored the possibility that my lights were out - after going through all the motions we concluded that my lights worked fine but for some reason, my turn signals would randomly decide not to work and work at other times for no reason. The officer let me go with a warning and a promise to look into the situation right away. After doing some research, I have found many other people with the same problem from the same automaker - Dodge needs to recall all of their 2006 Ram's and replace their defective parts. I believe ( from what I have read) it is the multi-function switch that needs the replacing. This is a major safety concern if people are thinking that their turn signals are working properly and in fact they are not - if it is concern enough to warrant a failed inspection from a dealership or state mandated law, why does Dodge believe that it is not necessary for them to replace their mistakes ? this is going to get people killed !!!!!

I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 and the turn signals do not work correctly. The truck was functioning properly before and there has not been any changes or accidents to the vehicle that could have caused it. When you turn the right signal on, it will blink a few times, then the left will blink a few times, or it will go back and forth like a police car. Some times both will blink at the same time. Some times it has a strobe light effect. My truck had 70K miles on it when it started and it happens every day. It might not happen every time I turn the blinker on, but it does happen every day. It has made driving very dangerous, because vehicles will cut me off because they are unable to determine what my turn signals are telling them. It makes it dangerous to change lanes and turn at intersections. Driving at night is even worse. This is a safety issue and should be recalled. I have done online research and found that it is a very common problem with this year and model truck. The solution to the problem is to replace the turn signal switch in the steering column. I called my local Dodge dealership and they said it would cost around 500 dollars to fix. I highly stress that this issue be addressed. I strongly suggest this issue be addresses as it is only a matter of time until a serious crash will be caused by the malfunction.

2006 Dodge Ram turn signal switch, when activated for left turn both turn signals flash or will completely shut off. When activating windshield wipers during rain they sometimes turn off by themselves and I have to fiddle with the switch to get them going again while driving down the road. Went to dealer they want $300 to fix it since its not a safety issue, wipers turning off in the rain is not a safety issue?

I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab truck. I have had this problem since shortly after I purchased the truck. The turn signals and the wipers intermittently do not work. Also, if I put on the left turn signal the right one goes on most of the time. From research I have done this is due to a faulty multi function switch that controls the turn signals, wipers and hazard lights. The dealer has replaced this switch twice under warranty and will not replace it now that it is out of warranty. This is a real safety hazard especially when the wipers stop working driving in the rain. I have researched this problem and there are thousands of posts on the internet with people having the same problems. There needs to be a recall for this. It is a real safety issue that needs to be fixed.

I have a 2006 Dodge Ram quad cab and recently the turn signal / wiper switch has been acting up. Quite often when I push down to turn the left turn signal on the right comes on and there are times when no turn signal comes on at all. I was almost rear-ended because of this. Also sometimes the wipers will not come out of intermittent no matter what setting I have them on. Again this almost caused an accident because during a heavy rainstorm all that I could get to work was intermittent. I have read online of other 2006 Dodge Ram owners having these same issues. This is a huge safety concern and should be recalled.

The turn signals and wipers on my 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 are not working properly. Nothing happens when I move the switch up, and when I move it down, the right blinker comes on. The wipers don't work properly, and sometimes they don't work at all. These are all controlled by the toggle switch on the left side of the steering column. Today 7/29/2010 I was driving through a heavy down pour and the wipers stopped as described. The problems have been occurring for 1 and 1/2 weeks. I have read online of others having the same problems, and the fix is a new switch.

I had my daughter out for drivers training when all of a sudden the turn signals stopped working. We pulled into a parking lot and checked fuses but found no problem. I took over driving and the signals started working by there selves. A week later I was at a stop sign turning right all of a sudden the left turn signal started flashing alternate of the right flashing. Then they stopped working all together. When I restarted the truck the turn signals started working again. Yesterday the signals would work once and then stop working until I would restart the truck. The dealership said they could not diagnose the problem until the signals acted up so they could see it. I guess it's time to go to the dealer and get it fixed.

Dodge Ram 1500 2006 - turn signal problems. On occasion the turn signals show opposite exterior lighting when used. For example, turn switch to left or counter clockwise, the right side exterior signals will light up. Sometimes they do not work at all and the hazards will not work either. This is a very significant safety issue.

Based on a thorough troubleshooting process, it was found that the tipm unit in my 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 slt 4.7L is faulted / bad. My left exterior signal will not function and flashes in the instrument cluster aty a rapid rate. Per Dodge, this is indicative of a bad bulb or short circuit. I replaced all bulbs and the rear lamp circuit board as directed. Neither repaired the problem. After two days of searching for a short, a Dodge technician and myself found the tipm to have a high side short which will not allow current to continue through the circuit to the lamps. An internet search finds this to be a very common fault of the Dodge module in many Dodge models, yet Dodge continues to expect the vehicle owners to pay for these repairs. Many owners such as myself have this issue outside of the warranty period resulting in a inappropriate repair bill for a safety item Dodge knows is faulty and will at some point, fail, resulting in other safety features other than just a flasher and brake light going out. I cannot accept that Dodge is continually allowed to use such faulty safety modules without being required to fix this problem, without the owners suffering the costs. Please contact me at [xxx] for any followup on this issue. V/R, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I have an 2006 Dodge megacab with only 40,000 miles since we hit 34,000 miles the turn signals work intermittently or not at all. Recently my wife was on the freeway and activated the right turn signal indicator and the left blinker came on she was nearly hit by a fast approaching driver from behind. I contacted Chrysler Corp. And filed a complaint a rep called me and stated they would by happy to cover the cost of the part if it was deemed defective by and authorized tech I would however have to cover the service fees. I explained to her that our current financial situation would not allow this and in essence this was a defective part and the manufacturer should stand behind their product she gave me the impression that they were not concerned this was an issue or even a safety issue. I stated that the repercussions of such short sightedness could be fatal for some unfortunate Chrysler product owners if this is not addressed immediately as I have noticed a growing number of online forum complaints regarding this very issue. All we ask is that this issue be addressed as a recall issue and repairs be completed satisfying customer requests to ensure a safer driving experience. Here is my ref #1974126 in deference to my complaint to Chrysler Corp.

2006 Dodge quad cab pick up (4 wd) while driving horn, dome light and cargo light come on with no warning or reason. Event happens every time I drive. Some times the dash lights go out. Which is hazardous in the dark. Dealer put in a new cluster and I still have the problem. Last time I drove got shocked when turning off the ignition, horn, dome light and cargo light come on. I have to pull the neg battery cable. System seems to reset, horn and lights go out. Dealer can't find the problem. My guess is the key switch or the ground for switch.

There has be a number of occasions this has happened about probably 100 times but paid not much attention until this winter. The turn signal level is also used to turn on the wipers on the vehicle. The problem arises when the vehicle lights are turned on, the wipers are on, and the turn signal are turned on. For no reason the turn signal from the opposite side of the vehicle is the one that operates. Normally when you are turning to the right the turn signal does not turn on and the left side signal turn on. In order to alleviate this problem I have to turn the wipers off completely. This causes a problem because this impairs visibility an also is giving other drivers the wrong signals. I have no idea what caused this issue but since I reside in the state of Virginia it is a requirement that when it rains you must turn your lights and wipers this has caused me a problems since I depend on this vehicle and when it snows or rain I cannot operate the vehicle. I am taking the vehicle to the Dodge dealer tomorrow to see what is the problem. I have not caused any accidents. Some drivers had got aggravated since some times I give them the wrong turn signals. The incidents have occurred many times in the last 8 months and I have noted that is getting more frequent since we have got more snow and rain in the North East I whish I can provide specific dated but it has happened so many times that I got tired of it and I am taking the vehicle to the dealer tomorrow. I am putting today as the most current date.

I activated my left turn signal but noticed that my right turn signal indicator light was blinking. This problem nearly caused an accident. The problem occurs approximately 90% of the time (when using turn signal). Also, my wipers have begun malfunctioning (turn signal and wiper switch located together on steering column). I do not know how to correct the problem (vehicle out of warranty).

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Ram. While sitting in the vehicle, the contact noticed smoke and flames in the electrical harness that hangs behind the plates, where the trailer lights are hooked. He believed that a short circuit occurred. The contact doused the flames with water and took the vehicle to a repair shop. A mechanic cut off the harness wire and stated that the wires were touching other wires in the harness, which is how the fire started. There were no recalls for this vehicle. Chrysler kept transferring the contact to people within Chrysler, asking questions, and giving him the run around. Initially, the contact spoke with the assistant manager at one of the dealers and was provided with the number to Chrysler. The contact stated that he was never informed to bring his vehicle to a dealer. The failure and current mileages were 5,300. Updated 7/23/09 updated 07/30/09.

In cold dry weather the ignition system shorts causing the horn lights and chimes to activate. The dealer has witnessed this three times, but said that Chrysler has no history of this happening and has no fix for the problem. The truck has been back to the dealer numerous times, several inhouse fixes were tried, but the problem still exists. A representative from Chrysler customer assistance told me that the problem is an act of nature and Chrysler in not responsible, but he refused to give me the statement in writing. The problem started about 3 weeks after I got the truck in January 2006.
