While driving to work I heard a strange sound underneath my truck. I pulled off the road to have a look and noticed the strap that holds the gas tank detached on one side and the front of the fuel tank was hanging down. Apparently the strap support in the frame rotted out. The rear strap attachment also seems to be corroding. I hate to think what would have happened if both straps detached at the same time with a full tank of fuel. I temporarily strapped the tank to the frame, using a ratchet strap, and brought the truck to the dealer. They confirmed what had happened, not covered under warranty, and said I had to take the truck to a body shop to be repaired.

Yesterday I noticed something hanging down under my Dodge Ram. After a closer look I saw it was my gas tank and the forward strap had came out of its anchor point. I thought all I would have to do is put it back in to the frame but then I discovered that the strap had actually pulled through its anchor spot on the frame and disfigured the anchor point that I can no longer put the strap back on. I can't help but think what could have happened if my gas tank had dislodged from my truck while driving on the highway....updated 08/08/17

When filling my vehicle with gas the tank gets full and the pump stops but only after spitting fuel all over the ground. This recently started happening but now happens every time I fill up no mater what octane and no matter what station I choose. I would estimate up to a half gallon of gas spills on the ground. Service bulletin at shop alldata repair advised of similar issues being resolved by replacing evap canister, emission system integrity monitor, vapor line & filter. All these were replaced and still having the same issue. Dealer service department say they have never heard of this issue, yet local shop found the service bulletin. Just waiting for an explosion to happen at this point, let alone the ground pollution from the fuel. Related complaints I was able to find: NHTSA id: 10561110 10502815 10498166

I received safety recall N08/NHTSA 13V-038 approximately 4 months ago. To date, the manufacturer has not provided the dealer with the proper part (rear axle pinion nut) to correct the problem. I have been advised that failure of this part could cause a crash without warning.

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the rear passenger's side tire blew. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated that the rear passenger's side valve stem was corroded, causing the tire pressure sensor to fracture. All four aluminum valve stem were replaced with rubber valve stems. The manufacturer was mot made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 36,761. The consumer stated as he was traveling on the interstate, the tire sensor light illuminated. At that point he did not notice anything unusual with the handling of the vehicle or the orientation of the vehicle. The next thing he knew. He heard a loud pop and then felt something occurring with a wheel on the rear of truck. The tire quickly went flat as he was slowing down. Once he stopped, he exited the vehicle and saw the right rear tire was totally flat and truck was sitting on the rim. The consumer called roadside assistance, and the tire was replaced with the spare. The consumer immediately took the vehicle to the dealer to have the tire inspected. The dealer discovered what caused the blow out. It was not anything the consumer ran over, or a defect in the tire. As they described it, the tire stem actually broke off due to oxidation occurring between the aluminum stem and wheel/rim metal thus causing the stem to rust and ultimately break. The dealer informed the consumer, Chrysler had issues with the aluminum stems and were going back to using synthetic rubber based sensor tires. Updated 06/04/13 the consumer stated the dealer advised the fuel tank strap rusted away from the frame causing the front part of the tank to dropped. The strap was rubbing against the drive shaft whenever the tank shifted causing a grinding noise. The straps were replaced. The consumer would like to be reimbursed for the repairs. Second incident-10/19/09. While sitting in parking lot with foot on brake, truck in drive, engine died out and would not restart. Had to tow to local dealer. Truck did restart after sitting overnight at dealership. Dealership could finally duplicate problem. No codes stored in any module. They checked voltage at the fuel pump and pump pressure, no pressure at pump. After lowering the fuel tank and checking the fuel, they inspected the fuel pump and discovered a power lead at the pump was loose and disconnects with vibration. Installed new fuel pump assembly. Old part not available.
