The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500. While driving 74 mph the contact heard a banging sound, within a few seconds a hole appeared near the drive shaft and flames had begun to enter the vehicle through the hole. The contact drove onto the emergency lane and got out of the vehicle, seconds later the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames. The fire department was called to extinguish the fire and a police report was filed for the incident. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that they could not offer any assistance regarding the failure. There were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 150000.
