As a result, the contact crashed into a road sign. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries reported. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and then towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the front driver side tie rod assembly fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure and the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 13V528000 (steering). The failure mileage was 72,000.
