A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

I recently leased an electric car, a 2015 Fiat 500e.

3 Days after driving it, I began to notice extremely uncomfortable physical sensations. I have taken at least 10 people for rides in the car. 7 of them also feel various degrees of the same sensations.

Effects/Symptoms: Head ache, tingling on face and around ears, pressure feeling in ears, pressure feeling in center of chest, foggy feeling in head, which continues for 15 to 60 minutes after driving.

IT CAN BE SO SEVERE THAT I HAVE HAD TO PULL OVER AND REST WITH CAR TURNED OFF.

There is one other symptom that I got after driving the car extensively during the first week: Rashes on my face and my arm. They were un-raised red discolorations that look more like burns. I took 3 days off of driving my car and they dissipated during that time and have not come back since.

I have tested myself sitting in the car without it turned on for up to 45 minutes. There are no negative effects whatsoever.

The symptoms are worse when: 1) The air conditioner is turned on 2) More acceleration is used.. These are NOT due to the feeling or smell of the air, or G force from acceleration. I have made sure to rule out both of these factors. I close all of the vents when running the a.c. to test it. It is not the air, it is a feeling of radiation.

I have greatly reduced my driving time in the car. I have rented a car for a total of 10 days on the Fiat Access program within the first months of having this car, so that I could have time off from the vehicle. Yesterday I took Uber twice, for the first time ever, because I did not want to drive the vehicle.

The car has been tested as "Normal" by Fiat mechanics, meaning they checked whatever computer codes needed to be checked but have never actually looked at the anything mechanical or electrical that I know of. There is nothing at all Normal about this and something has to be done. I have tried all 3 channels multiple times to try to resolve this: Dealer, Chrysler Capital, Fiat Corporation. I am looking at at least a loss of $7000 I end the lease early. If fact, Santa Monica Fiat gave an unofficial quote of -$15,000 for a dealer buyout!! I traded in my old car so that I could lease this electric vehicle. Now I have lost my car, and I can only drive this one for limited periods of time without getting ill. To clarify, I am not “electrically sensitive”. I have never had issues like this with any other vehicle.

I have followed the proper protocol described in my owner's manual. I Brought it into Fiat of Glendale when I reported the Electric Service Light on and I reported my sensations of 'excessive static electricity feeling'.

Next, I reported it to my dealer, Fiat of Santa Monica. They told me to contact Chrysler Capital, which I did. Chrysler capital in turn directed me to Fiat Customer Care. Fiat customer care has taken several days between each call, which has added up to more miles on the car, more exposure to the negative effects of the car and more time waiting for a solution. I have been using rental car days in order to reduce my exposure to the car and to minimize mileage. if I was rich I would just buy a second car while I'm trying to get out of this one, but I am not. A couple weeks ago when I thought this was nearing an end, I vowed to stop driving the car. When Fiat, after giving me hope of solution, came back to me with NO solution, I realized that I would probably have to continue driving the car. I am a professional actor and I have to be able to drive to auditions on a regular basis. In the past weeks I have taken about a dozen people in the car without telling them my physical symptoms, or just saying I was getting headaches. Some of them have reported the exact same symptoms I am having, in great detail - the main ones being a pressure in the front of the head, headache and fogginess in the head. Some have not been aware of any sensations. Recently I rented a 2014 Fiat 500 non - electric, to give myself a break from the excessive radiation from my car, also to compare. As expected, I had no negative effects from the 500 non-electric car.

Please, if you are having any of these sensations, let Fiat know immediately. And please add your complaint to as many online sources as possible.
