CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.

Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.

Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

Worst piece of sh*t Ford has ever slapped together is the Ford Edge and it's not even at 100k miles and there goes the transmission. Completely shot and everything about it is just wrong. Everything leaks.

I noticed this about a week after I purchased my 2007 Edge last December. When I stop on a slight incline, if I let off the brake it will start to roll as if it is in neutral. When I took it in for routine maintenance another customer came to me and ask If I owned the 2007 Edge. She said she had one also and almost had an accident when she was stopped on a steep hill and it rolled backwards and almost hit another car. She was there to have the dealer check out the problem and they told her they did not have a repair for the problem. For now I know to make sure and keep the brake applied until I and ready to accelerate and move. Even though this is definitely a mechanical problem with this vehicle.

Here's my story...... On my way to work I felt my Edge struggling switching gears. So I turned off the radio to really listen. And I could tell the transmission was slipping. About 5min later it was a lot worse. Once I stopped at a light and began to go the transmission was just revving up but not going into gear.

I took it to Firestone who confirmed, for $67, that it was the transmission. Firestone does not work on transmissions. So, Then I took it to the dealer for $99 for them to confirm it was the transmission. They told me that I would need to replace it. So 101045 miles later and a brand new $3900 Transmission. Not really Happy.
