Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

When I get into the car and shut the drivers side door, I get an error the door is ajar. Clearly it is not but a relentless beeping is warning me of the trouble. The doom light will not go out and the doors will not lock. When I get out of the car the lights stay on for five minutes, indicating a door is still open.

The net effect is that the car's interior lights will not go off nor will the doors lock when the car is in motion making it difficult to see at night and impossible to secure the doors from being opened at any speed. History: In Dec 2014 my Ford Edge drivers door "open" indicator would occasionally not turn off after the door had been securely closed. This happened about once a week and by closing the door with a bit more force would it then turn off. Over the next three months the indicator light would work for a period of time and then fail again. Starting in February 2015 the light became more difficult to get to go off until March when the indicator light never goes off. The effect of the door not registering as closed causes the interior lights to remain on, the doors not to lock and the occasional dinging that the door is open. Although capable of being driven this makes the car unsafe as the doors are impossible to lock when the vehicle is in motion at any speed and the interior lights remain lit making it very difficult to see at night.

The door ajar sensor on the driver side door fails to function properly making the vehicle react as though the door is open even though it is actually closed. This prevents the doors from locking and prevents the dome light from turning off. The door ajar alarm and light will not stop alerting the driver to the problem. Because the doors will not lock, there is a danger to driver and passengers while moving. When dome light fails to turn off, the car battery can run down preventing the car from starting.

  • 38,500 miles
With the driver door closed, display shows door ajar and the dome lights are on. The car doesn't lock the doors too. It is dangerous to drive with the lights on straight in your face! this a security failure and seems to be epidemic on Ford cars. Dealers are charging $400 to $500 to replace the faulty switch inside the door latch. Ford should recall as a safety matter and do the repair for free.

Driving down the road when my sensor indicted that the driver's door was ajar. I pulled over to the side of the road and slammed the door multiple times. The sensor still told me the door was ajar. This will not go off. It has been two weeks now. The dome light will also stay on draining my battery. Ford needs to recall the sensors. When I look on line there are multiple other driver's door sensor issues with this vehicle. The chime warning is constant. Please recall these so I can feel safe in my vehicle!

problem #109

Dec 302014

  • 56,500 miles
About 90% of the time -- at all speeds of 0-75 -- the warning light shows the driver door is ajar, which causes the dome lights to stay on, and the door locks will not lock. This is extremely unsafe when driving in the city and stop at a red light -- anyone could open the door and get inside. When the dome lights are on, it is difficult to see at night, especially when backing the car.

Driver side front door, door ajar light says on. Have to slam the door several times to get it to turn off and some times that does not even work. This seems to be a common problem with these vehicles.

Says door is ajar when its not. Dome light will not turn off, wont lock, and beeps constantly when not in park until I try to close the door, that is already closed. Have to open and close, open and close, open and close until it turns off. Has happened numerous times. This is not just an annoyance issue.

problem #106

  • 30,000 miles
The door ajar signal constantly stays on after I've already made sure the door was shut. This has happened multiple times in the last two weeks. My interior lights do not shut off until I've slammed the door about 5-6 times. It's really hard to tell if they've shut off in the daytime and so I'm fearful I may come out to my battery being dead. It also scares me to see it come on while I'm driving with my daughter as I'm unsure whether the door is properly latched. This needs to be a recall so that all drivers experiencing this issue can get this fixed immediately.

Ford Edge sport 2012. Driver side door lock actuator fails and/or gives false readings. Driver side console displays door open indicator. I have to repeatedly open and close to the door to clear the indicator light. It usually happens right when I enter the vehicle but has happened while driving. I pulled over and opened/closed the door to clear the message.

Driver's door sensor not working properly. Driver's door ajar warning stays on even when door is clearly closed. Because of this, the inside dome light stays on. When first entering vehicle in the mornings, interior light does not come on. Because of this I am unable to lock the doors when driving.

Edge 4-cyl

  • 43,000 miles
The sensor for the door ajar on the driver side is bad and I cannot lock my driver door due to the alarm sound from my display panel. The door automatically unlocks putting my safety at risk in parking lots, dangerous areas, and when I am driving. The Ford dealer tells me this has happened to hundreds of these vehicles and is an obvious manufacturer issue but there is no recall as of yet. This is a major safety hazard due to the inability to lock the door when the vehicle is in motion or lock the door when you enter the vehicle for personal safety.
