CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Edge has its fair share of problems, but chief among them is an annoying “door ajar” warning light that won’t shut off even when the door is most definitely closed. While the retina-burning, ever-present false reminder on your dashboard is bad, it points to a deeper problem that can drain the battery, leave the doors unlocked while in motion, or render the key fob useless.

My issue is that there is a door ajar alarm that I brought my vehicle into the dealer to fix. With this alarm you are unable to lock your doors while inside the vehicle. Someone tried to steal our vehicle from us with us inside, just walked up and opened the door. The attempt was unsuccessful and we got away but it had me thinking that if we had small children in our vehicle, they could easily open the door and fall out. The dealer said this is a known issue and it would cost over $500 to fix but recommended NOT fixing it because it would just happen again, it's a bad part/design they said. I did call Ford Motor Company and they advised me to report this to you so I'm reporting this before someone gets killed from this known issue.

Door switch problem -even when all doors are shut, control panel is telling you a door is ajared -interior light stays on --can not lock car with remote --because it thinks door is open. if I try to lock my doors when I try to drive doors will not lock-safety issue right there. now I was informed by ford in January 2020 for the first time about this customer satisfaction problem as they called it. At this time the problem did not happen that often and the covid virus problem had keep us at home. when we were able to go out safely I brought car to my dealership and showed the paper work and the service dept said it is not covered anymore and I would have to pay $500 approximately. I called Ford from there and they would not give the ok on fixing it, where they would be able to do while I was there for regular maintenance. I advised them that I was only informed by that one letter in 2020. I have been having them do my service since I bought car in 2013 and nothing was ever mentioned about this problem. and now problem with door is continuous and I feel it should be taken care of by Ford. You have my vin # please have someone get back to me on what I should do to have this repaired by Ford.

Ford door latch issue- the driver door will not latch when door is shut this causes the lights to come on in the vehicle and warnings to appear on the dash (door ajar, shift to park, etc). I have issues with my car locking because the doors appear to be open. This is an ongoing issue. The dealership cleaned the latch for me and this temporarily solved the problem, however a few months later and its happening again. This is unsafe when I am driving as I do not know if the door is securely shut. It also is a distraction when all of the lights are on and there are warnings flashing on the dashboard.
