The contact owns a 2002 Ford Escape. The vehicle was repaired according to NHTSA campaign number: 12V005000 (service brakes, hydraulic); however, the repair did not remedy the condition. The contact had not experienced any failures prior to the recall repair. The contact noticed excessive smoke under the hood and the cap leaked brake fluid, which impacted the power steering pump and caused a short within the wires and the ABS. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and stated that the vehicle would need to be towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing and repair. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 169,000.

The airbag light keeps coming on. I took it in for service for regular maintenance and then the light was off. I've had the car now for 10 years this December. I can't recall a time my airbag light has not been on. Just recently I started researching and found their is a short wire under the drivers seat and it has a little gray prong on it. The gray prong needs to be grounded and it should be attached the bars the seat slides back and forth on. I stuck the gray plug in and the airbag light went out. The only problem is every time you move the seat it pushes the gray plug down and eventually it will come back on and I will have to fix it again. Ford needs to correct this problem. The problem is an easy fix and I don't understand why they don't change the plug or make a longer cord. Ford needs to fix the problem. I love my car but hate the frustration.

: the contact stated while driving 35 mph, the ABS light and emergency brake light illuminated constantly. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer. While being inspected by the dealer, the vehicle began to smoke. The dealer determined that there was an electrical problem with the ABS wiring and that all the wiring needed to be replaced at an estimated cost of $1600. The dealership refused to honor the extended warranty and the owner refused to pay for the repair costs out of pocket. Dealer then refused to return the vehicle to owner without repair due to fire hazard. The dealer assisted the owner with the purchase of a 2006 Mercury mariner by paying off the remainder of the loan balance on the Ford Escape updated 10/25/2006 -

The vehicle was traveling about 70 mph in the far right lane when all of a sudden driver heard a loud explosion from the front of the vehicle. Driver pulled over immediately due to smoke coming inside the vehicle. The driver got out and watched the vehicle burn within 7 minutes. The white smoke seemed to indicate a fuel line.

I purchased a Ford Escape 2002 in April of last year from the able Ford dealership in rockville centre. The processor (computer part of the engine) failed in March 2003 and was replaced it's now May 2003 I am still having issues with the processor. They took the car in on Friday May 16, 2003 and put a hornest on the engine (processor) and gave me the car back that day. An hour after I got my car back from the able Ford dealership service department in rockville center, NY the vehicle was having the same problem that was suppose to be corrected that day. They currently have my car in their possession now. This is the third time I'm bringing my vehicle to them for the same problem. They can't tell me why this vehicle is malfunctioning and I've called and made complaints to their customer service department several times without anyone contacting me or providing me with answers. I called the salesman mark demartini who sold me the car. He was also rude and told me to call laura the service department manger. I called laura and left her a message. She never called back. I have a brand new vehicle that spends more time at Ford than with me driving it and I don't feel safe in my own vehicle. At any time because of this problem my car could shut down while driving. I am being given the run around and Ford is not providing answers as to the malfunctioning of my new vehicle and I feel cheated and violated. They are currently telling me that they can not find anything wrong with my vehicle and their NY service representative james welch (201) 529-7267, told me basically this is all in my head and lied about facts on my work order sheets that I have copies of. He said I am trying to build a lemon law case against them and they are not going to help me do this. Now with all of this said and he rudeness and dishonesty how am I to believe he even looked at my vehicle that has been there for five days. This is truly a safety hazard.
