Escape XLT 3.0L V6

So i bought my car a few weeks ago and as soon as i fill it up at the gas station, the engine light comes on. i've tried everything the owners manual suggests so i brought it back to have it checked out, and they seemed to have fixed it, until the day after that when it came back on again. i have no idea what's causing it, for everything runs smoothly and seems to be fine. i'm just worried it's something serious and don't want to risk wrecking my truck.
