CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2004 Ford Escape looks pretty good compared to other Ford Escape model years, but still has a trend of transmission problems, and engine problems from the NHTSA complaint data — so it's not a model year we can recommend.

This is my wife's Escape, but when we were still dating she called me up to let me know she was broke down. The engine belt was broke in half, and upon further inspection I found the bearings had failed on the AC compressor. I had a friend tow it home for me and I replaced it my shop. I thought it was a little odd it went out at such low miles. I called a shop to see how much it would have cost and it would have been a little over a $1000. We have had several more problems that I will report.
