CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2004 Ford Escape looks pretty good compared to other Ford Escape model years, but still has a trend of transmission problems, and engine problems from the NHTSA complaint data — so it's not a model year we can recommend.

The front seat passenger door latch will not open the door, it is locked for good. kids love jumping into the front seat from the window but it is not good for older people. i drove a 30 yr old hefty neighbor to the grocery store do you know what it is like driving down the street with half a body sticking out the window because she couldn't squeeze the rest of her inside. now we drive around like "driving ms daisy". we tried to undo it with a slim jim it worked we thought it was ok but 3 weeks later it did it again and now the slim jim can't help it. went to a garage which are few and far between was told that we would have to take it to a ford dealer $$$ to get it fixed. no wonder people try to get new cars every couple of years. another fix that will have to wait. social security does not allow that much extra to get that kind of work done.
