CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005 Escape has problems where the engine shuts down while driving. Ford finally issued a September 2014 recall. Time will tell if the recall fix really solves the problem.

However the 2005 Escape also has a defect where the PCM (Power Control Module) fries at around 100k miles. Ford extended the PCM warranty to 80,000 miles, but only after most owners were past the mileage limit. Now owners are on the hook for the average repair cost of over $2,000 (!!)

My Wife left to go shopping in our 2005 Ford Escape Limited and got not to far and it started runnind rough, loss of pwer and stumbling turned around and came home. I took it for a test ride to comfirm her complaint. Well it did the same and after I got home in the driveway, it stalled and hasn't run since.

I am a backyard doit yourself kind of person and tryed all the usual stuff with no luck so I seeked the help from a local mechanic. He put his tester on it and it showed no codes or problems. It has fuel to the injectors but no spark to 4 out of 6 plugs. Coils seem to be ok. Iv changed the fuel filter , air filter and spark plugs so far with still no start. It kicks a bit but wont start...Im now wondering if it is the same computer/coil/plug thing goin on with these P.O.S. escapes????????
