CarComplaints.com Notes: The top problem trend for the 2014 Escape is transmission failure at around 70k miles.

This is relatively low mileage for an expensive transmission failure ($4,500 average to fix), but unless the trend becomes more established, we are only awarding the 2014 Escape our "Beware of the Clunker" badge for now.

engine stalls/dies while driving

I was leaving work one night and turned on the highway - the engine at fault light comes on. I'm in the middle of the freaking highway in traffic! It does it frequently, then it acts like it doesn't want to start. The check engine light keeps popping on and off. I got it scanned and it said it was the valve which got replace, but it's still happening.

It all started after the exhaust got fixed. I'm putting more into this damn vehicle then what I'm paying for definitely. There needs to be a damn recall. This is very serious and dangerous when this happens and you're on the road, a busy road - as a matter of fact, any road. This is why I call Fords found on the side of the road dead good forbids. I hate Fords - I needed a suv badly, this was all they had. I'm trading this in.

I purchased a Ford Escape used 20K miles worked fine until I reached 60k then the engine reading said the car was running hot. Took Car to Englewood Ford they said they fixed it and it did work for a couple of weeks, same problem again. They said they fixed it guess WHAT! the car is back in the shop again. Same problem!

What is going on!??? With this car. The car just stops and I'm stranded anywhere. This could have been a major accident someone could have been killed.

FORD are you kidding me!

Don't worry you got me this time and Yahweh will I will get out of this loan and NEVER EVER by a FORD or any AMERICAN car again.

THIS VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. ENGINE BLEW WHILE I WAS ON HWY DRIVING 70MPH.

DEALER SAID IT DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH OIL IN IT. I RECEIVED NO WARNING LIGHTS OR SIGNALS THAT IT NEEDED OIL. OIL CHANGE STICKER IN WINDOW SHOWS CHANGE OIL AT 36,997 MILES OR MAY 11. THERE HAS TO BE SOME TYPE OF INSTRUMENT FAILURE. IF IT NEEDED OIL I WOULD HAVE ADDED OF COURSE. I FEEL FORD HAS SCAMMED ME KNOWING I AM A SINGLE OLDER WOMAN. LAWYERS HAVE BEEN CONTACTED AS WELL AS FORD BOARD OF DIRECTORS SINCE CUSTOMER SERVICE REFUSES TO SPEAK TO ME. VEHICLE HAD 33,55 MILES AT TIME OF LOSS

Escape Titanium 2.0L Ecoboost

  • Automatic transmission

I have experienced on three occasions that this vehicle will missfire, shudder , stumble and almost shut off while attempting to merge onto a freeway with other cars bearing down on me at 70 mph. The last time the problem happened I almost caused a wreck as my vehicle showed an inability to reach merging speed, almost cutting off, and forcing me to limp onto the shoulder of the highway.

Several issues have been identified with the Ford EcoBoost 3.5L motor which describe in an identical fashion what I am experiencing with the Ford Ecoboost 2.0L motor. The issues appear to revolve around condensation build up within the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) WHEN THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN IN HIGH HUMIDITY AND RAINY CONDITIONS. All three times this has happened to my new 2014 Ford Escape Titanium it has been in rainy, high humidity conditions!

This is a significant safety hazard when attempting to merge into highway traffic and your car refuses to accelerate!!

Update from Jan 1, 2016: Accelerating onto the highway and when the car reached about 4500 rpm the motor began to sputter and stalled. I had my foot on the floor and the car would not accelerate. Engine light came on, car went into "Limp Mode" at a max of about 20 mph on a 70 mph interstate highway. Had to pull over on the side of the highway. Car eventually started. I videotaped the entire situation with my phone. This problem only happens in rain and high humidity and is an identical problem that has been reported on the 3.5L Ford Ecoboost motor. Yet Ford is telling me that they have no similar complaints on the Ecoboost 2.0L. The same problem has occurred 5 times now. All in the rainy and high humidity situations. Ford needs to address this before someone gets killed or seriously injured!

engine light came on, vehicled slowed, barely accelerated

I had the same problem with my vehicle as I did less than 30 days after the first incident. This has become a safety issue. My vehicle stalled after exiting the interstate. I contacted Ford and asked them to have the vehicle picked up at my home the next morning because the service department had closed by the time I made it home. If it had stalled while on the interstate, I could have caused a major accident which could have affected others as well as myself. I contacted Ford's Corporate Customer Service to report my concerns and to let them know that this vehicle may have a factory defect. A new vehicle should not be having transmission issues and since these problems had occurred less than 30 days apart I no longer feel safe in my vehicle. Not only do I feel my vehicle is unsafe, it is inconvenient to have to keep bringing in a new vehicle for repairs. With the last incident, I had to find a way to get to work the next morning because I could not get a rental car before 7:00 a.m. and I had to be at work at 7:00 a.m. I am very disappoint with Ford's Corporate Customer Service, they told me that I would have to deal with the local dealership where I had purchased the truck. I contacted them and expressed my concerns and I told them that I did not want to remain in my vehicle and asked them to replace my vehicle. I told them f there was no other option, I would consider trading my vehicle if they were going to make it an even trade. No such luck, I am upside down with this vehicle and they expect me to absorb the difference and again pay sale taxes. If I trade the vehicle, I am at a loss and I've been making payments on this vehicle since July 2014, my investment will be lost. If I keep the vehicle, my safety is an issue and anyone riding in the vehicle with me. Again, I purchased a new vehicle, not a used vehicle and I should not be having transmission issues.
