rattling drink holder & components console

Ever time I use the AC or heater and turn them off the cup holder which is all plastic and the control console rattles with every bump in the road. I have to grab it on the side and pull up on it to stop but i cant drive one handed forever. Now if i drive the car from a cold start there is not noise but once i turn on either the AC or heater the rattling starts. If i put a cup in the cup holder it sounds like your rubbing on the side of Styrofoam. Tried putting a napkin around the cup but the noise just makes one crazy!! It would of been a heck of a lot better if everything down the middle wasnt made of plastic. Why and how do i stop this crazy rattling?
