I received a recall letter from Ford Motor Company in July 2007 for a defect in the cruise control of my 1999 Ford Explorer. Per the recall instructions I took the vehicle to the local Ford dealer, jones West Ford in reno, nv. Rather than fix the defect, jones West Ford disconnected the recall and said they would call me when the parts came in. Over the next seven months, and despite five calls, two visits to the dealer and two calls to the Ford corporate customer service, Ford has refused to correct the defect.

Failure to perform recall 05S28 (fuse harness for speed control fire prevention) as per original recall letter to customers. Dealer claims lacks of parts. Original part availability was to be nov2007, then jan2008, not it is may2008. Ford motor has requested customers to disable cruise controls on affected vehicle, but it is not moving promptly to provide a solution. This raises question as to whether or not Ford motor is trying to save recall cost due to attrition of affected vehicle or to customers giving up on the process. This recall campaign does not comply with the intend of the recall agreement since no completion time is being adhered to.

Our 1999 Ford Explorer is part of a large recall because of a fire hazard with the cruise control. We are having it disconnected but the part will not be available to repair the cruise control until at least January. My husband has back trouble and drives every couple of weeks to pickup an elderly family member. It is very painful for him to drive the vehicle any distance without the cruise control. We wonder if it's possible to get the part to repair our vehicle any sooner. Thank you. No incident happened, it is a required field.

The failed part listed is the idle air sensor. When this part fails the vehicle dies. This failure can not be detected by the mechanic until the part completely fails. The listings provided are only the times in which the vehicle was taken to the dealership to attempt repairs. On several occassions I was sent away with the mechanic not able to duplicate the problem. Some of the repair has come under my extended warranty but I wonder how long the repairs will last. I purchased the vehicle with 5245 miles and trouble with this part started at approx. 15000 miles. Due to the fact that all power is lost when the vehicle dies, this could be a very dangerous failure. No letters were sent to the manufacturer because I thought the dealer was a branch of the manufacturer and the repairs could not wait for a letter to arrive to authorize repair. I believe I bought a lemon and I am just waiting for the next failure!
