Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2002 Ford Explorer is hands-down our worst vehicle on record. "Avoid like the plague" is putting it lightly.

The 2002-2005 Explorer has a very well-established record of expensive transmission failure at under 100k miles. The Explorer has an enclosed transmission which is typically replaced with a rebuilt transmission at a cost of almost $3,000.

Another common problem for the 2002-2003 Explorer is wheel bearing failure at around 90k miles, with a typical repair bill of $500 to $1000 depending on how many wheel bearings failed.

Adding insult to injury, the 2002-2005 Explorer also has a massive problem with the rear panel cracking. While it's a minor annoyance compared to transmission failure, ironically the crack usually goes right through the Ford logo.

For the last several months our Explorer car alarm will go off, usually at night, for no reason. We started having the problem, as mentioned by others that the "door ajar" light will not go off, and then we have problems with doors locking, or not. Door ajar alarms going off when driving etc. Then, the car alarm will go off at night or in the evening when the car is locked up. No prowlers or attempted entry to car. This is an incredible Pain in the Ass, for us and our neighbors. About to cut the horn wires dammit.

The vehicle"s alarm will go off by itself, blow fuses, discharge the battery, door ajar light comes on by itself, might go out after all doors or hatches are opened and re-shut, vehicle alarm will activate sometimes in a lightning storm, or when a train goes by. The vehicle is kept up to date with all services, recalls notices, and services. Now the vehicle. will discharge the battery in record time: like a dead short in the electrical system, heater motor will not work, AC will not work, radio will not work, and the headlights will not work, plus the dash brake light comes on. The vehicle is hard to start. My local Ford dealer says they cannot diagnose the problems; and my insurance company will not cover anything, because a problem cannot be found, by man or computer. This is the worst POS that I have ever owned.

The wires in the drivers door cause the interior lights and mirror light to stay on and go off at random times. It also will say door ajar, the door locks also will click nonstop when driving down the road and beeping noises. Makes it very irritating. I have done research and have found there are several others with the same problems. we have had it repaired twice over the last three years and it is currently having the same problems. we cant even lock the doors or the alarm will sound at random times, the interior lights will come on randomly when the vehicle is parked. Yes I would say this is a big issue on ford's part!!!!

My problems are just like most of you people.Door ajar light comes on randomly. The interior lights come on while driving and it looks like a Christmas Tree, and the doors lock and unlock repeatedly. Beginning last night, while car was sitting in the parking lot the alarm started to go off every 15-30 minutes. When it all stated happening about a month ago I thought it was the battery so I had it checked, but was OK. However, I was told the computer indicated a problem with the alternator, particularly the diode set. I have not taken the car to the shop but I am going to and if they solve for it, I will let you know.

My truck is possessed!!!! It is driving me crazy. If I set the alarm, it goes off. If I don't set the alarm, the lights flash all night long. When I get in my truck to go to work, the bells ding, the lights flash, the locks click. CONSTANTLY!!! Yelling at it only makes it worse. Like a rebellious child. It interupts me when I talk. I try turning up the radio to cover the sound and the door locks go crazy. WHAT TO DO???????

The following things no longer work after my battery went dead, and jumped by AAA:

Power locks for doors and back gate, keyless entry pad on driver door, security system, automatic lights, and radio doesn't turn off when i open my door like it use to. So i have to manually lock doors and turn on head lights, crawl to the back of vehicle to open door so i can put groceries in "trunk" area, and radio only turns off if i manually do it before getting out of my car. I love my car but this one problem seem to be so weird. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Explorer Eddie Bauer 4.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 135,000 miles

THIS IS JUST ANOTHER ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. I KNOW 135,000 IS GETTING SOME MILEAGE ON IT I''VE HAD EVERY MAINTENANCE DONE, TIRES ARE ALWAYS IN GOOD CONDITION OR NEW, OIL CHANGES EVERY 3,000, TRANSMISSION TRANSFER CASE, ETC, ETC, ETC. I SEE PEOPLE DRIVE CARS INTO THE GROUND.

I LOVE MY EXPLORER BUT I DO NOT LIKE THE ISSUES THAT SEEM TO BE POOR WORKMANSHIP AND WE DON'T NEED THAT WE ARE ALL NEIGHBORS, DON'T MAKE A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT AND THEN PUT THE BURDEN ON THE BUYER TO KEEP PAYING OUT THE NOSE FOR REPAIRS THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN AND ISSUE

Explorer ES V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 115,000 miles

Clicking noise in the rear of the vehicle that sounds like a "locking" noise. I had taken the vehicle in previously for this and was told that it was the motor for the rear ac going out and they fixed it (It was still under warranty)... Well the sound is back. and it gets louder when I turn the AC on. (But also does it when the AC is OFF?!)

Another trip to the Ford dealership for a non related repair (shocking)... they told me this time that is was an electrical problem... and it pricey to fix. Funny, I am no longer covered under a warranty now. THANKS FORD.

.there is an electrical problem in the vehicle causing lights to flash on and off door ajar, abs, check engine light the 4x4 flashes, windows wont go up or down, caused the rear wiper to stop working. the door locks wont work! This truck has been a pain in my ass and my pocket book from the moment i drove it off the lot. we also have a f150 of the same year and we have absolutely NO problems at all with it. infact is is the best truck weve ever bought Ford really needs to step up and take care of these problems. Every one that I know with the same vehicle has the same types of problems. I saw the truck, fell in love with it. it looks great. and is alot of fun to drive, itll go anywhere, BUT ONLY when its runnin right wich is VERY RARE! I wish that i would've done a little more research on it before spending so much money on a lemon. i never know what is going to go wrong next! Is anyone going to do anything about this? Ford is a good company, but they really bombed on this one!
