CarComplaints.com Notes: The NHTSA's complaint data shows potentially scary power steering problems with the 2011 Ford Explorer.

The steering complaints are pretty serious - owners report the power steering cuts out while driving. The NHTSA opened an investigation into the power steering problems in June 2012, which lead to a recall in 2014. However years later, many 2011 Explorer owners report this defect is still occurring.

It's too bad because the 2009 & 2010 Ford Explorer are solid, trouble-free model years.

The area around the hood is showing paint bubbling and corrosion and the rubber around the windshield is dry rotted and falling apart. This has a drastic effect on the value of ythe vehicle if I want to trade or sell it.

I purchased a Metallic Tuxedo Black Ford Explorer XLT 2011, pre-certified owned and bought the 100,000 mile extended premium warranty with it. I always have kept at least three coats of wax on the SUV. Last year, I had the dealership where I purchased the vehicle look at the eight (8) areas where paint was bubbling along the front rim of the hood. He informed me at the initial visit that they would fix it, but he had to get it approved. When I bought the vehicle back, he said that Ford policy is "unless the bubbling had corrosion that went completely through the metal underneath, it was not a factory defect" and they would not fix it. I drove to an auto body shop in town, and the owner there told me that it was indeed a factory defect and Ford is responsible for what will amount to be over a $500 fix, much more if the corrosion goes through the metal.

So the bubbling has continued to get worse and worse. This morning, I went to a brush-less car wash, and now the paint has started to flake away from one of the areas when the bubbling had been, leaving a nice white scar upon the black paint.

I have seen on the Internet that there is a class action lawsuit against Ford for similar problems with Mustangs, and was wondering if any other Ford Explorer owners were experiencing similar problems and wanted to band together (it only takes three people) to initiate a class action lawsuit of our own.

THE PAINT ON THE HOOD OF MY EXPLORER IS BUBBLING UP ALONG THE FRONT EDGE, AND HAS BECOME SO BAD THAT IF YOU TOUCH IT THE PAINT COMES OFF. THE DEALER SAYS IT IS NOT A WARRANTY COVERED ITEM, AS THAT IS ONLY GOOD FOR 3 YEARS OR 36000 MILES. MY RESPONSE WAS SO YOU SOLD ME A $50K CAR WHOSE PAINT IS ONLY GOOD FOR 3 YEARS? SCREW YOU!

I have been happy until I went to the Ford Murphy dealership ...(3310 Township Line Road Chester, PA. 19013).... to have my vehicle hood looked at....(see pictures)

This is the second time I have taken the vehicle to have the hood looked at...(the first time was November 15, 2011)....It was brought to my attention that this is a known problem with the Ford Explorer's having paint peal or bubble up. My claim was denied because of New Vehicle Warranty 3-year/36000 miles...

I'm not going to gripe, rant, yell or do any of said mention. What I will do is be patience and what until Ford fix my problem....Hopefully I will not have to take to social media to share this information with others. I will not stop until I have this issue resolved....... If it means seeking legal action against Ford and Ford Murphy dealership.

Bought this car used last year, after having it a couple of days I noticed the rust bubbles around the hood. I dont know if this is covered in my warranty which will end this September????

Update from Apr 14, 2015: I received a reply from your site indicating that Ford did issue the bubbling was due to a manufacturer defect in the aluminum used. So does this mean they are responsible for repairing it free of cost to me? Sorry for being naive as I am not well versed on how this works. I took it in to have them fix it but they said I had to pay for it myself because my warranty was up. Please advise.
