The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. Within less than a week of owning the vehicle, carbon monoxide entered the vehicle. The dealer (skalnek Ford, 941 S lapeer rd, lake orion, mi 48362, (248) 693-6241) stated that there was a tsb that could be performed on the vehicle. An unknown part was replaced, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but they were unable to provide a solution. The manufacturer issued three recalls on the fuel system. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA action number: EA17002 (structure, engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

For the last 4 months I have been smelling exhaust when I drive with the ac or heater on. I took the car into Ford for an inspection in October, and while they 'couldn't find anything wrong', they did quote me for $1,400 to fix what might be the problem. They also asked if maybe I was just smelling other fumes with the windows down. I took the car to a private mechanic who inspected it and said it wasn't safe to drive and that Ford should be covering this. I just called the dealership on 11/16/17 to try and get an appointment for the customer satisfaction program (17N03). They told me they will not be getting parts in for another month. This is not acceptable! I am driving my 3-year-old around in this car, without the heater on trying to minimize the fumes. Meanwhile Ford is telling me that the media has blown this out of proportion and only police vehicles should be getting the fixes.

The exhaust leaks into the car interior when you accelerate quickly. It's a horrible smell, that lingers until you roll down the windows. This issue has been occuring for several years with my vehicle. The dealership in denver told me there was nothing wrong with my car. The Ford dealership in dallas wants me to pay out of pocket to fix this issue that they've known about for years. During longer drives, I often get super sleepy and nauseous. This is affecting my health, and my family's health.

This make/model/year has a known factory defect that caused the exhaust manifold to blow exhaust directly into the cabin. I had to force the dealer to fix this, as they argued exhaust is not dangerous. I have attached the instructions on how to fix this, from the factory, proving it was a known serious issue, not disclosed to me. The dealership did a horrible job in the "repair" - having broken other parts of the car in the process. After they "repaired" the car, it began randomly shuddering, while idling. I have attached a video of it. You will need to turn up the volume to the max, as youtube compressed the sound terribly. I have one witness to this happening twice. The engine starts vibrating with such ferocity that it sounds as though the vehicle is about to explode. The witness is willing to testify in court. Https://www.youtube.com/watch?V=johecicectk. This vehicle has completely fallen apart around me. There are 10 other major mechanical issues, which Ford refuses to fix.

Over 2700 complaints and 41 injuries to date with exhaust issue that is releasing large amount of carbon monoxide into the cars through the vents was found to be the problem for my 2013 Ford Explorer this past Monday at world Ford in pensacola fl. I was told by the service dept that this was the same issue that all of these other Explorer have had and that the expensive repairs don't work anyway. Ford has bought back 3 just from this dealer alone and several cars have elected to have the repairs done but according to all of the many websites with complaints on this issue- the repairs either don't help or make it worse. I found out today after being on the phone with more people that I can count from the 800 # at Ford and the service dept, that this dealership "isn't willing to participate in any repairs" and was then told to handle it with Ford Consumer Affairs...who keeps pushing me back on the service dept. I don't know what's more un-nerving about this...that Ford knows just how big of an issue this is and they haven't done a formal recall yet or that it's documented that I am a single mom, with one of my children having asthma and I've had horrible headaches and stomach aches for the last year- never knowing why we've been so sick until a few days ago but no one wants to do anything about it! so, I'll file a complaint with the BBB and will blast a review on every social media site that's connected to Ford until someone steps forward and either tries to see if a repair will work or will buy it back from me, allowing me to trade it in for something safe! how many people need to be sick or die from carbon monoxide poisoning or continue to have wrecks from passing out from the carbon monoxide poisoning before Ford actually does a full recall and fixes our cars that we all paid a decent amount of money for? horrible smell, loss of power, poor gas mileage.

Extremely bad exhaust fumes in car. Brought to Ford and was told I had grass in my engine, I said bs. Brought back again and was told its under review. Making me light headed while I drive. Have to drive with my windows down all the time just so my kids don't smell it. Seems the longer I drive the worst it gets.

I've noticed this smell every time I turned my car on/off or would get finished driving. It would be in the drivers cabin down at the floor where it came from. I first noticed it there and had mentioned it to Ford when there for service. It smells like a natural gas ( like at home ) leak. I'd smell it if he air or heat was on bringing it into the cabin. The same smell would be present when I stopped driving and would op N the door. Smelled like it was coming from under the drivers side wheel area. It persisted for the last few years. I've told Ford many times but they say there's no recall. Or that my car was out of its manufacturers warranty. At the time in 2014, when I really took notice, my car was still under warranty. I bought my car out of its lease in 6 OR7/2016 and there were reports of exhaust issues with people having a smell on the cabin. Ironic that I've been complaining of this two years prior to it coming out in the news. When asked, I was unsure to buy a car with exhaust issues, they reassured me there were no active recalls. And that the exhaust wasn't a problem. I thought I had roadkill rotting under my car, but after numerous under carriage car washes and theee years later, the car still has that natural gas smell.

I recently went into my car and begin driving it and noticed an awful smell of boiled/ rotten eggs or sulfur smell and could not understand what this could be, so after during some research on google I saw that this was a common issue and brought it into my dealership who I take my car to for all of my routine maintenance. I am able to present them with all of the technical service bulletins (tsb) about this issue and the folks here have no idea about. If the car is driving at any rate windows up or down the car has this awful odor. The odor was so bad that when I pulled it into the dealership service center it completely filled the dealership and had everyone complaining (mainly employees). But they had no idea about the issues with these trucks. I am curious why there hasn't been a recall on something that seems to be reoccurring issue but I am even more disappointed that Ford employees don't know these common issues with their cars. It is not possible to drive in that car without this being fixed and I definitely believe it can cause an accident or worst end lives. I will not be able to put my kids in this car as long as this remains an issue.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. While the vehicle was on an incline with the accelerator pedal depressed, the odor of carbon monoxide entered through the cabin without warning. While the air conditioner was in recirculation mode, the contact attempted to accelerate past other vehicles and the abnormal odor was noticed. The dealer (ed shults Ford-Lincoln, 2258 Washington St, jamestown, NY, 14701 716-484-0121) was contacted four years ago (one year after purchasing the vehicle) in reference to the abnormal odor. The contact was informed that there was no open recall. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 10...updated 09/28/17 * updated 10/27/2017

This is my third attempt at this. My Explorer has the exhaust problem you are seeing in the news. I have tried to work with the dealership, Ford directly and now one wants to acknowledged. I have been chasing this for a few years. My kids and I are getting ill and with 100 degree temp and below zero climate we have to use the air. They also have a problem with their outer window pillars where they will come lose and randomly fly off on the freeway. Below is my conversation with Ford directly who claim this is rare and does not cause safety risk, to see the dealership who needs to take the car apart at my expense to even try and locate the problem.

Ford exhaust I am getting a strong rotten egg smell and a burning smell everytime I drive my car which is a 2013 Ford Explorer limited 4WD it has been getting progressively worse. This happens when I am on the highway and when I am just driving down the street. I am not sure if it gets progressively worse when the car is going faster because it smells all the time. I just had the car toed to dealership because it will not start. In addition I noticed that I have been suffering from headaches, dizzinessand and fatigue while driving which has never happened to me before. Finally I noticed that when there is no power in the car there is no way to open the back tailgate to let people out when you are sitting in the third row of the car so you are trapped back there with the smell.

I believe that carbon minoxide has been leaking into the cabin of my 2013 Explorer limited. I often notice that after driving my vehicle I will feel very lethargic, sleepy, nauseous, or have a bad headache. Sometimes I can even taste gasoline in my mouth. It causes a slight burning sensation in my throat. I've had this vehicle since August 2015. I have noticed that I've felt sick with the symptoms mentioned above more often than not since I started driving this vehicle. Ford Motor Company has acknowledged this issue with the Explorer to a certain extent. However, it seems as though nothing has officially been done to fix the issue to protect consumers. I am extremely disappointed that Ford Motor Company hasn't issued a formal recall for these vehicles. I don't feel safe!!!
