Good day, my 2000 Ford F150 pickup truck is involved in the gas tank straps recall. Because the straps broke it caused excessive vibration from the tank that also damaged the tank; now Ford has fixed the straps but now they want $1600 to fix the tank which broke because of the damage straps originally. I have never had a vehicle with such a severe rust problem. I think this vehicle should have a fuel tank recall also. The fuel line all got rusted and broke on me; I had to change out all the lines. Now the gas tank and straps are all rusted out. Thanks,
The contact owns a 2000 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken for routine maintenance when informed that the fuel tank straps were fractured and only one strap was leaving the fuel tank attached to the vehicle. The contact spoke to the manufacturer in regards to NHTSA campaign id number: 11V385000 (fuel system: Tank assembly) and was told that the vehicle and state of Nebraska was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 180,000. Updated 09/08/11 the rear fuel tank straps were replaced. Updated 09/14/11
The contact owns a 2000 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while inspecting the vehicle, he noticed that the fuel tank strap was severely corroded. He purchased a new one and replaced it himself. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The current mileage was approximately 113,000 and the failure mileage was approximately 90,000. Updated 06/13/11

I have a 2000 Ford F150 and I heard that there is being an investigation into the gas tank straps rusting through and dropping the tank. This happened to my truck causing the tank to drop to the road and drag, also causing the tank to spring a leak (needing to be replaced). The tank, straps, vent tube, etc. Were replaced at a cost of near $700. I was wondering what steps if any I can take to get reimbursed for this cost. A strap which holds on the gas tank on my 2000 Ford F150 broke while I was driving and dragged appx. 300 yards, causing about 10 gallons to leak out on road. The local fire dept. Had to be dispatched, and I had to replace the entire tank and strap system at a cost of over $800. The local Ford dealer that did the repair did not mention anything about a known problem. Updated 08/04/11 the consumer stated the strap furthest to the front was the only strap that broke and caused the forward part of the tank to drag. The break appeared to be in the center of the strap on the bottom facing the road. The entire metal part of the strap was extremely corroded. The rear was similar, but seemed to have added support from the fill nozzle and cap assembly. Also two years prior, the lowering spare tire cable was corroded and broke while driving, which caused the tire to drop to the ground. Updated 08/15/11
Filled up with fuel. Drove approx. 2 miles and fuel tank fell off due to rusted tank straps. Dealer replaced straps and broken fuel vapor valve. Vehicle had 62260 miles at the time. I have parts of both straps. Updated 08/01/11 updated 08/01/11
Email from the office of congressman dingell re constituent who believes Ford Motor Co. Maybe in violation of the tread act. The consumer stated the design flaw dates back to the late 1990's. the consumer believed that the Ford F series Super Duty pick-up trucks need to be investigated for a defect that involves the side pole which could cause injuries/deaths during a side impact crash. The consumer claimed that the relationship of the frame rail spacing and occupant seating placed the occupant in undue danger in side impact crashes. Especially when the side impact involves the vehicle striking a pole. Updated 03/1/10 updated 03/15/10 the consumer stated the fuel leak was a result of a tank strap that rusted. The contact owns a 2000 Ford F150. While driving 10 mph, the fuel tank fell from the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure occurred approximately five minutes after he filled the fuel tank. As of November 5, 2007, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle. The contact felt that the rusted straps that held the fuel tank caused the failure. The current and failure mileages were 104,000. The contact owns a 2000 Ford F150. The contact heard a loud thump while the vehicle was idling. When she accelerated, she heard something dragging. She pulled over and noticed that the fuel tank on the passenger side was dragging on the ground. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the strap failed and also discovered a hole in the fuel tank. The dealer replaced the fuel tank and the strap. The current and failure mileages were 165,000.

The tank fell to the ground, and he was able to pull to the side of the road without incident, the conditions on 12-24-06 were dry. The contact stated that he kept the truck in a garage. The consumer stated while traveling at 5 mph in 2000 Ford F150 the gas tank fell off the truck. The whole gas tank, lines and sensor fell right off the truck. The truck has been taken to a dealership for repairs. The consumer called Ford, and Ford stated, that they could not help out. The consumer said that everything was fine with the truck before this. The tank was completely full of fuel at the time.
The consumer stated that gas was leaking on 2000 Ford F150. Consumer was smelling gas, and finally took the vehicle to to have it checked about a week later. The dealership inspected the truck and found the leak. The dealership replaced the gas tank. There were no recalls on the truck. The truck was fine once the new gas tank was installed. The owner called Ford, and they said that there was no recalls on the truck.
