While repairing the vehicle, the contact was informed that the fuel tank had a hole and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of failure. The failure mileage was approximately 207,000.

The contact stated that while inspecting the vehicle, she noticed that the fuel tank straps were corroded and the fuel tank was leaking gasoline due to a hole on the fuel tank. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank straps needed to be replaced and was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 11V385000 (fuel system, gasoline). However, the contact was advised that the repairs for the hole in the fuel tank were not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not further repaired. The approximate failure and current mileages were 131,930. Updated 12/20/13 the consumer stated there was a hole in the gas tank under the fuel tank straps.
Fuel tank fell off of truck while driving down the road. Causing the fuel tank to hit the ground and fuel to leak out of tank. Fire dept. Had to come clean up mess. Had truck towed to dealer for service. Found out after that straps where recalled by Ford. Ford refuses to pay for the tank, the clean up, or the tow. They told me I had been notified and they would only pay for the straps. I find it funny that they didn't have any of my info before I gave it to them. So how did they notify me.
Traveling at approximately 25 mph, the fuel tank straps snapped and the fuel tank dropped to the ground in the vehicle. The driver, unaware of what happened, heard a noise as she was approaching a stop light. The noise ceased after stopping. The driver then made a left turn when the light changed at which time the noise continued. The driver pulled the vehicle into the next available parking lot and upon exiting the vehicle, smelled gas and found the forward part of the fuel tank on the ground with gasoline leaking. No recall notice was received by the driver or the spouse of the driver at their home address in spite of being told later, after the incident, that several were sent.

As of 12-10-2010 I was at work and was walking toward the truck and notice the gas tank was hanging.I called my boss and told him the situation.so I took a rachet strap and strap it up.drove over sixty miles home to local auto store and picked up new straps.as I was replacing straps I notice a strong odor of gas.also when replacing these straps that I notice alot of rust on gas tank where gas straps were placed.wanted to take a wire brush to it but was afraid of the wire brush putting a hole through it.also maybe a spark and kaboom.besides that took the truck to dealership and service advisor came to us and told us that gas tank has 3 holes in tank around front strap and is to dangerous to drive.he said that he would get ahold of Ford and more than likely they would put us in a rental and fix tank.he comes back and said they would not fix.he told us that we have a case.so called Ford and they told me that the only way they would fix the tank if it would drop to the ground.I see that as a personal safety issue for me and people behind me.Ford showed no concern and that bothered me.but since the tank dropped I have smelt gas and the dealership noticed the corrosion and rust under the straps and Ford still did not care.
I may be possible that if your vehicle is operated in a high corrosion areas for an extended period of time, one or both fuel tank straps could potentially fracture. Strap fracture may result in the fuel tank contacting the ground. If the fuel tank contacts the ground and develops a leak while driving, there is a potential for fire. The time Ford estimates for this repair to occur is erroneous. It takes half a day in the shop to determine if the straps are in good of bad shape. Then they have to order a repair kit. To do the actually repair, close to a day in the shop. I need my vehicle for work and Ford will not loan me one free of charge.

The vehicle was not repaired. The contact expressed concern that the bracket replacement should have been included in the recall remedy. The manufacturer was notified of the problem but provided no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Ford has issued a recall for defective fuel tank straps that may corrode and cause a potential fuel leak. I brought my truck in for the recall and sure enough my straps are corroded. The vehicle is at a Ford dealership and they will not replace the straps because the corroded straps have started to corrode the tank. According to the dealer the tank will begin leaking if they replace the straps. The dealer called Ford customer care and they would not cover the tank. I also called Ford and they refused to cover the tank and also will not replace the straps unless I purchase a tank from them to replace. If my straps break I will lose my tank and potentially cause a fire or accident to another vehicle. The recall does not currently address additional damage caused by the defective straps. The damage to my tank is a direct result of the defective straps and should be covered under this recall. I leave in new england and am sure there are many other Ford trucks with the same problem. On July 19, 2011 the fuel tank dropped out from underneath my 2000 Ford F 150 while going over the beacon newburgh bridge in NY. Gas leaked all over and had the nys police as well as the beacon fire dept. Incident was reported to the nydec. No fire but fuel leaked out of tank. Vehicle was towed to garage for repair at the cost of over $1100 not including the $190 towing fee. I am lucky that this tank did not blow before I could make it to were I could pull over safely. There was no break down lane on the bridge.
In April 2011, while driving our Ford F150, model year 2000, along a country two-lane road in a rural county in Virginia, at approximately 40 mph, the gas tank dropped onto the road causing a large hole in the tank and the loss of nearly 3/4 tank of gasoline. I was able to brace the tank up with a rope long enough to get to our son's home a short distance away and lucky enough not to run out of gas until I pulled into his yard. There was no injury but sparks flew from the tank after it dropped onto the road. Fortunately there was no fire. I had a mechanic replace the tank and the strap and have had the truck back into the shop twice to repair leakage and had to replace the neck assembly as well. We were made aware of the recall on our model F150 and took all receipts to the local dealership. We were told that this truck was not included in the recall and the dealer refused reimbursement.

Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic who replaced the fuel tank, modular, straps, hoses, clamps, and the tank pressure sensor. The current and failure mileages were unknown.
