Came out from work one day and rear window was down, attempted to raise but all I got was a grinding noise. Took to dealer to repair, cost was @ $400.00. Three weeks later I had two more windows fall down into the door. Another $800.00 right as I was about to pay off the truck. Ford refuses to classify this problem as a recall, I'm just waiting for the last window to break.

I bought a 2004 Ford F-150 Supercrew Lariat 4x4 truck last October. When I took it home from the dealer, I rolled down the passenger-side rear window and it just dropped inside the door. I took it back to the dealer and they fixed it. I thought it was just a random incident or that it just came off the track and no big deal. Well, a couple days ago (now that I've had it for 1 year and no warranty) I picked up my kids from school and as we were driving home the driver-side rear window (the other one this time) fell down inside the door. I had no warning, didn't hit any button, and suddenly wondered where the wind was coming from. At first I thought my kids rolled it down but hey didn't. I tried to roll it up with the power control button on my arm-rest and nothing happened. All I heard was a grinding sound and remembered what happened the first time around and went "awww great!" This is the second window in a year and after researching heavily online I discovered I'm not alone. I am dumbfounded as to how this issue with Ford Window Regulator/Motors and Cable/Pulley Assemblies has not forced a RECALL!!! How is this possible with all of the complaints posted with NHTSA and online forums? I have been told this isn't a recall issue because it doesn't affect emissions or safety, but if that's the case, how is this not a safety/security issue??? I'm lucky that my window didn't shatter and hit me or, more importantly, my children! Not only that, but what if this had caused an accident? Nobody should be driving down the road, hear a loud clunk, freak out, and swerve off the road! Not a safety issue? Seriously? And what about this being a security issue? How in the hell do I keep my window up and lock my truck while I'm shopping for groceries or something? Not only could someone steal something inside but they could steal my truck! If this isn't a security issue then why do I have remote locks/alarm? Something has to be done about this! I don't have $400 to throw away in this economy! Thanks to this website I filed my complaint with NHTSA, confirmation #10289767, and suggest you all do the same. Here's some info:

In my particular situation I'm not too sure if my regulator is bad but as a result, the cable and cable-winder are FUBAR. As you can see the winder that holds the cable is completely stripped out and when I took everything apart I had to cut the cable due to the rat's-nest. What a way to spend football/baseball Sunday huh? lol...I took the door panel apart, had to suspend the window with rope while I pulled out the window slide and assembly, take this crap apart, and then reinstalled window into slide and wedged 2x4's to hold window up. Needless to say, my driver-side rear window is permanently shut and I am not paying a dime to fix it.
I have owned Ford's my whole life and this is my 5th truck. Thanks alot FORD! Fix your SH*%!!! This power window cable/slide/pulley/motor assembly is total CRAP. I am gonna sell my truck and buy a Toyota. I've had it.

Went to get into my truck noticed my rear window was down, thought maybe my daughter had left it down but when I went to roll it up I could hear the motor and the window wasn't going up. Husband thought maybe it was off track so he took the door panel off and noticed cables. Did a search and saw this is a common thing with Fords windows. Called Ford dealership to see what the part was going cost was told 149 and some change, that is almost 600.00 dollars to replace all the windows for the parts alone. Called Ford customer service was told they haven't heard of any issues with the windows.
2 years ago noticed my back seat would get wet when it would rain assumed it was the seal around the window took it to Ford and was told it was the 3rd brake light that was leaking and it so happened that my warranty was out due to the date not the mileage so I had to spend 150.00 to have them replace the seal around the brake light.

Third window to fall.... Yes THIRD.... None under warranty. This has got to be fixed by FORD. I will not ever, ever, ever buy another Ford because of this. Not only will I be in for over $1,500 to fix all of the windows that have broken, the dealer Sucks and never has the parts and has to order them in. The trucks look great, drive great, and have pitiful parts in them. No wonder our car industry has been in trouble. Why buy American that won't last.

I was pissed when that window fell on me and I went right to the ford dealer. They knew just what it was and the price it would cost, it has happened so often. I wrote ford a nasty letter and they blew me off, and that was that. Then I came out of a store this weekend and a guy in the next truck asked across from the drivers seat through the left side of his truck "HEY did you notice if the window was up" and I looked at the model f-150 and said good luck to him. The same thing happened not only to him...my friend's f-150 just happened 10 days ago...and neither can afford that bs. If ford doesn't care then I don't care to own another ford! Shame on them.

This particular defect and thier lack of accountability is all that I need as a consumer to no longer purchase thier vehicles.I want to support American products and American companys but when I can clearly see by the many other posts concerning this completly same problem I have to shake my head and think what the F@#$ are you thinking Ford.II love how they act like thier not aware of the problem so there for no problem. Wrong, I will do what I can as a consumer to tell ever single person including the AZ state attorney general of this problem.I will not lie down and fork over money for repairs for something I quarantee they are completly aware of.

Yesterday, there was a long pop when I was rolling up the driver's side window. The window fell into the door and will not come up. This is exactly the problem that 100's of other F150 owners have reported at http://www.carcomplaints.com/Ford/F-150/2004/windows_windshield/. Look at 'window fell into door', 'window does not roll up', and defective window regulator' categories.
Crossroad Ford Cary NC sevice center quoted me $400 - $450 repair cost. A local repair shop is going to do the work for $220.
I WANT FORD TO REPLACE ALL 4 WINDOW REGULATORS ON MY TRUCK. THIS IS A KNOWN DESIGN DEFECT.

Reading all the complaints about the same problem that i am having, it only makes sense that Ford must have a recall on the windows that keep dropping in the door. This is the second one in a month that has happened to me. The first one was my drivers window and last night in the pouring rain it happened to the passenger window. hello everyone I guess add me to the list off (pissed off) well My wife was driving down the street on her way to work, when out of nowhere she heard a loud noise and the passenger side window had fell down into the door. She called me to tell me what had happened so I called, Ford (1-800-392-3673) the operator that answered the phone asked me for the VIN # explained the window just feel down into the door and that I wasn't the first F150 owner that this happen, that I have searched online to see if other people were complaining and I also asked if Ford is going to do something about it. He said that as of right now there was no recall for that specific problem in place. He concluded that at this time I will have to pay out of my own pocket to repair my truck. Long story short, my driver's side window also went out couple months earlier - now I am stuck with another approximately $300 bill. Obviously the ford company does not give a flip** all this happened at about 50,000 Ford F150 window problem, defect, claim, Ford F150 window regulator, recall, Ford F150 window class action, problem, warranty, F150 window defect

I had both Passenger front and rear windows fall just out of the blue. What a pain in the As........ I don't know the name of the part but on both doors it's the part that holds the window. It's a slider the has both ends of the cable connected to it, yes it's plastic! The piece that holds the window is metal, but the piece that labors to close and open the window is plastic, SMART!!!! These are the people making American made vehicles with china parts. I'm driving a mut!! Please call and and chew them out because they are going to set on their ass and take bail out money from us, and at the end of the day we pay for a new door. So the driver side window fell down. We discovered that the window regulator was shot. We took it to Ford who wanted about 193 for the part and 92 an hour for labor (and he said it was a 2.5 hour job) to fix it (about $420 for an out-of-the-blue WTF How-the-hell-did-this-happen fluke kind of bullcrap?!). Then we took it to an auto glass shop out of town that quoted me about 160 for the part and 80 for labor. We couldn't get it fixed there since we were leaving the next day, so we went shop shopping when we got back home. We found out that the GM/Pontiac service department had the best value in our area at 172 for the part and 48 an hour for labor (and it would only take Chevy an hour to do what Ford called a 2.5 hour job!?!). So we paid half to have Chevy fix a problem on our Ford.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Ford and would never want to own a Chevy but their service was much better and honest, I bet they went home and laughed. After seeing how often this problem has happened I definitely would have, if I were them!! Now if only I could figure out why the hell my passenger windows don't roll up or down with the driver's panel (or with their own, half the time). And why the passenger front seat is stuck all the way back. And why the passenger side map light burned out. And why it hollers like a diesel when I start it (not complaining, it sounds badass). And...

It happened again the driver side regulator / motor stop working. The cheap GM Ford Part failed... FORD HAS TO BE AWARE OF THIS??? I WILL CALL THEM THIS WEEK. Total cost $409.04 Ps. the parts are cheap to buy. However the wire cables are all wound up inside the regulator and the tension can be a hazard if you don't know what your doing.

OK, just to add my two cents worth, on 07/17/08 I was driving down the road at about 35 MPH and thought someone shot my driver's side front door, which scared the s*&% out of me. I pulled over and found nothing wrong. I continued on and opened my window which slowly sank into the door not to be seen again. With some internet research and $402.73 later, my broken window regulator cable was replaced by Ford and, voila, it works again. I cannot believe with the number of problems people are having with this Ford hasn't stepped up and taken care of this. Maybe they should have taken some stimulus money and taken care of their customers. See my next complaint for the front passenger's side which happened yesterday, 08/24/09.

While driving really late at night, really tired, I here a loud "POP"... window falls into my door and I (scared sh**less), swerve off the road. Thank God I was on a back country road. Window never rolled back up so my first thought, "oh its prolly the track, the window prolly just came off or somethin small... no biggie". WRONG! Tear the door down to find a birdnest of cables and one of them had broken off of one of the tracks. My next thought, "WTF am I looking at?" This has to be the worst design for a power window ever produced. To top it all off, when i called ford they told me they see these all the time and it would cost me around 500-600 to fix! This should be recalled and should be viewed as a serious safety issue. Ford just is not what it used to be, i hate to say it but my next purchase will be a chevy. Ford may have the looks, but underneath these things are held together by glue and plastic.

Wife called up while I was at work, and said that the driver side window had fallen down while she was in a restaurant. I have had the truck covered in the driveway w/ a tarp for the last few days. Kind of reminds me of riding through a trailer park and seeing the half covered Monte Carlos. Anyway, I took the door apart today and see that the cable is wrapped all around the regulator. I came inside to look up this problem, and came across this website. I see that this is a very common problem w/ these trucks. I'm not going to bitch too much b/c the truck has been great otherwise. I just wish Ford would look @ these common problems and offer some kind of fix. I'm going on a 700 mile trip in a week and now I'm really nervous that the other three are going to do the same thing w/ two kids in the back seat. Come on Ford, step up to the plate and give us a reason to keep buying your vehicles.

after googling my problem i found this site and realized.....This isnt my problem, This is FORD's problem, why havnt they recalled this. it really gets under my skin that you pay all this money for a vehicle and some crap like this happens. I'm talking about the chinsey little plastic peices use in the windows. i have rigged it by pulling it up, lodging paper wedges in between the rubber and the window, ensuring that the window "track was rolled up, then engadging the windows lock. I love everything else about the truck, but this is annoying and by reading all the other complaints, this is definately a Ford problem, this issue is worth a recall.

Within weeks of the warranty expiring the driver window fell into door. Our local dealer got it taken care of under warranty. Six months later the passenger front window fell out which we had to pay for. I understand that we can expect the back to fall out in the near future.
Also, the truck is missing at idle and I am afraid to have the plugs changed due to the problem with plugs breaking off in the head. It is not in the shop for clunking in the rear end which I expect to get very expensive. This truck is rated to tow 8700 pound. The only towing has been a jetski for a total of maybe 500 miles. Why should we be having differential issues short of Ford selling defective vehicles?

Have owned Fords my whole life. No real complaints, until now. Bought my wife a beautiful 2004 Ford F-150 4 door Lariat. Have owned it 6 months and have replaced 3, yes thats 3, window regulators. The windows just fall down into the door. I am FED the F%#@ up with this. My local ford dealer basically told me to pound sand over it. By reading the other complaints this is a serious issue that Ford needs to address. I cant speak for everyone else but they are on the verge of loosing a customer over this!!!!!!

Since this appears to be a such a common problem I guess not much explanation is needed. I heard a loud pop as I was rolling up my driver's side window and the window dropped down into the door. Took it to the dealer and bent over. I will call Ford tomorrow and scream and holler.
Update from Jun 15, 2009: Ford offered to split the cost to replace the remaining three window regulators up to 60,000 miles or 6 years. It's not the best case scenario but it could be worse.

The third window regulator. I know Ford did not manufacture the part, but you would think they would keep a better eye on their vendors.
Update from Oct 26, 2009: I am now on the 4th window regulator at 53k on hte mileage. FORD should really change its name to POS!!!!!!

Well this is finally my third window so i only have one more to go! All my windows except for my passenger have broke...i now have over 800 dollars in this ridiculous peace of sh*t. i fixed the first one myself but it was such a pain in the ass that i had ford do the other one...but for double the price of doing it myself i won't give them a chance to fix it again and rape me for even more money. im a diehard ford fan from my work truck to my daily driver all the way down to my streetrods. But this really gets me steamin when i walk out to the parking lot and my window is down... Really makes me think if i want another ford.

Rear window fell in to door when driving down the road at 35mph. Took it to auto glass shop and was told it was a faulty regulator and that I needed to take it to Ford dealer for repair. They also said this was a common problem with this truck and that it should have been recalled. Took it to the Ford dealer for repair and was told by mechanic that is was a common problem and the he too felt it should be a recall and that it could happen to all the other windows and there is nothing I can do to prevent it. He said he felt guilt every time someone came in with this problem and that Ford should take care of it.

2004 Supercrew 150. First the driver window regulator failed about two months ago, then last night the passenger rear failed. That rear window has been open probably less than 5 times in the life of the truck. Over $600 in the repair of two windows and Ford dealer acknowledges they are a problem. Then I find out there are spark plug problems where the plugs break off when the time comes to service them. Sad to say this will be my last Ford.

My husband was driving our son to the busstop. He went to roll the wondow down and it made a crazy loud noise and fell about 6 inches. He was able to get out of the truck and push the window up by hand. SO today, about 2 weeks after this happened, the window started to slip down while I was driving home from work. I got home and pushed it back up and went in the house. 25 minutes later we get in the truck to leave and my husband says "where is the window?" The darn window is in the door now! SO instead of taking the family somewhere tonight, we all got to go to the dealership and find out that it is ging to cost us 400 dollars and they can do it tomorrow. Who has 400 dollars before christmas in this economy! I am SO ticked!
I live 30 minutes + from work, and now I HAVE to get it fixed before I drive on the highway (at 0630) to work again.
