F-150 XLT 5.0L Coyote V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 92,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

This ford f150 is so young! It has only 92k miles on it! It has low compression in cylinder 5, and cylinder 5 only! This is obviously an internal issue. This will be my second f150 that needed either a new engine or head. Nobody seems to have any issues with this engine... I guess I'm one of the few. Apparently to ford mechanics, its not the first head job they've had to do on a newer coyote 5.0! Can't believe this.

F-150 Platinum 3.5L Ecoboost

  • Automatic transmission
  • 46,447 miles

This is the 3rd time truck has done this. Accelerate to merge onto highway and truck shakes violently, and WILL NOT ACCELERATE. (Farts and falls). Check engine light comes on and I have to pull over, turn engine off, wait a few minutes, then restart. Engine light stays on, but truck runs normally as long as I creep slowly up to speed. I then am afraid to attempt to pass anything. I love my truck, but this terrifies me!

F-150 Lariat 3.5L Ecoboost

  • Automatic transmission
  • 87,900 miles

Bought used with 87829 miles. Within the first two weeks I was contacting Bitterroot Motors Ford in Missoula MT regarding what seemed like an engine misfire. I was told that it was the carbon buildup in the Ecoboost and it was caused by the "recycled" fuel that we have here in Montana. I was instructed to buy (from Ford) BG 44K which is a fuel additive that is suppose to remove this carbon buildup. I was instructed to use this additive twice a year (spring and fall). This stuff is not cheap.... 2 cans cost me $54.30.

This did not fix the issue..... In October 15, 2014 I contacted Bitterroot Ford with the same complaints let them know that it seemed that the engine is misfiring Ford recommended that I replace the spark plugs (which I did) since this was an intermittent problem I though for awhile that the issue was fixed. However in November I again contacted Bitterroot Ford November 14, 2014 letting them know that the issue was not resolved still felt that the engine was misfiring however know vehicle is also hesitating on acceleration and idling rough.

Mechanic stated that upon inspection that they found a vacuum hose that was disconnected and that replacing it should alleviate the problem. NOT!!! I returned to the dealership service department on 20 November 2014 to have the back defrost window replaced and informed the service representative that the issue was still present he informed me at that time that they didn't know what the issue was... So at that point we pretty much lost faith in Ford and their technicians.

We did a lot of research on the Ecoboost and noticed that we are not the only Ecoboost victims several owners are having the same issues that we have had with ours. In Feb. 2015 we noticed that after parking in our driveway after driving to town we had a large puddle of water and that the water was dripping from the truck. My husband contacted Ford explained that it wasn't coming from the AC and it was indeed water. Ford stated "we have never heard of anything like that". Go Figure!

In June after dealing with this engine misfire, hesitating on acceleration where the truck losses power, we again bought the BG 44 K fuel additive that Bitterroot Ford recommended. This time the issue got worse. We bought a travel trailer and were headed camping... The truck completely started misfiring, this time it shudder and the whole truck shook. It was a very scary situation to be on the interstate with a travel trailer at 101 degrees and your truck break down.. This time the check engine light actually illuminated (it never had in the past and I believe that this is why the Ford service technicians didn't take us seriously when we told them the problem we had had in the past). You couldn't get the truck above 45-50 MPH without the engine misfiring.

We noticed that the truck lost AC, the exhaust started making popping noises. Needless to say we were screwed... By the grace of God we made it home without being stranded in the extreme heat on the side of the interstate with 18 wheeler traveling by at high speeds. We immediately took the truck to the dealership. I explained to them that this was the EXACT issue that we had been having since we bought the vehicle back in June 2014 only this time it is 100X worse..

So now we are without a working truck, this issue might not be covered under warranty for repair and I have only had the truck for 1 year with 5 more years of payments.. Ford has no thoughts as to what the issue could be or how to go about fixing it. I will NEVER purchase another ECOBOOST!!
