Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

Flex 6-cyl

The issue that has recently cropped up on our Flex is the fuel meter will read sufficient fuel for approximately 50 miles and then, in a matter of miles, the tank seems to run dry/indicate no miles left. On this particular date I was driving the car it indicated 49 miles to empty. After 3 miles it ran out of gas. Fortunately I was on a side street and not the highway. This behavior could have been fatal if I was operating on a highway. I am not the only one having this issue. Please see for additional cases as an example:

Vehicle running sluggish approx. 3 weeks prior. Check engine light warning came on and immediately took vehicle to Ford for a diagnostics check. Vehicle had a code P0422, test ran verified evaporative system leak. I was told it was a safety issue and not drivable. Fuel filler pipe was cracked and needed replacement. Ford has prior recalls for this part over the years, although Ford did not cover this repair. 1 week prior one of two engine fans went out requiring replacement.

The check engine light has come on 4 times in the past year. The error code relates to the capless fuel system. The dealer has reset the code and replaced a fueling tube. On 7/24/10, engine light lit and five minutes later the engine cut out while driving less than 20 mph. Car restarted without issue. It is currently being serviced.
