never fails: middle of the HOT summer the AC fails. Except this time the ac compressor itself failed. The pigtail wiring burned itself out and shorted the compressor. we had to get a new compressor & condenser and pigtails. After working on it all night, it still didn't work. the new compressor never cycled through. we had suggestions of hot-wiring it with a paper clip to complete the connection and to take it to a repair shop to have them evac & recharge bypassing the compressor all together. neither of which were ever done, but now it doesn't matter

Purchased my 2000 Focus as a used vehicle, back in 2008 (naturally paying double what it was worth!) Within two weeks the A/C stopped blowing cold air. The blower worked, but the A/C didn't. Had to take it back to the dealer twice within two weeks. On the 2nd trip the compressor was replaced, and it worked fine for about 6 months. Then the fan switch inside the car would only work on 1, 2, and 3 -- but would not work on the highest level - 4. Then the A/C died again. Since I live in Florida, and it was an extremely hot summer -- temperatures over 95, (inside the car probably about 120 degrees...), this was a little bit of a problem.

Took the car to Jiffy Lube, and the dude there added about half a can of coolant -- but said he was having problems, so I then took it to a second mechanic, and he filled the coolant. (cost me $50 but I had brought my own coolant...!)

A/C worked fine for about two weeks, then the whole thing stopped working. The blower fan stopped working altogether. (I had actually gotten it to work on 4, but I couldn't turn it down, otherwise it would stop working again. A few months later when it got colder out, I made the mistake of turning the fan down to 3, and the whole fan system shut off.) No fan to blow cold or heat. (and then we have had a really cold winter here in Florida, so I was now twice as miserable in my car!)

Still haven't gotten the problem fixed, am working on it now!

Hello:

My A/C / Heater has stopped working without any warning. My blower fan does not work at all nor do my A/C indicator light comes on. I have no fan, heat or A/C. I do not understand why ford does not recall this vehicle for this problem. I have read or viewed over 400 other complaints about the same issue by ford focus owners. I have checked all fuses, replaced the relay and blower resistor. None of these have solved my problem. Can anyone please tell me what is going on or has there been any recalls on this vehicle with this type of issue. Also my ignition switch has got stuck and my key would not turn at all. I called a lock smith and was able to get it fixed for $30.00. He told me there was a broken lobe inside the switch that he removed and it works fine now. My brakes are making an awful noise aswell. What is the deal with this car? Ford needs to recall this car and pay for the cost not the consumer. If anyone has had there a/c fixed please tell me what you had done.

Thank you

This car sucks sooooo frigging bad i cant even take it anymore. my brakes and rotors have somehow just ffuc$#@ themselves up twice in two years; squealing, grinding. heat and air only work on 1 and 3 and 0! Yes, try driving with warm air blowing on you when its 90 degrees in the middle Philadelphia. My trnny went bad at 75, 000 m. Now my god damn engine light came on it stalls out and leaks oil out of the valve cover gasket. its like Im giving smoke signals as the oil burms on the header while im driving. And oh about those frigging brakes: i want ford to give me money for all trhe damn aspirin i had to take from those loud ass brakes. this car just epitomizes the fuc#!@ mind state of corporate america! Its obvious that these problems aren't random; there are thousands to contest to it. i just want my goodddaaammm money back

the a/c heater switch has slowly stopped working. initially the level 1 and 2 settings quit working, now level 4 (max) no longer does. only level 3 works (and that is on a good day) we have not gotten it fixed yet, it's not worth the money, the car is going to fall apart soon enough.

Air 1st got hot in Sept. of 2006 but being it was going into winter and I was in MI thought I would just wait until spring to get fixed...was told in summer of 07 just needed a freon recharge so that was $65 but only lasted about a month and then air got hot again..so took it back and was told there was a little pin hole in a filter related with the air and Ford had no after market for it so would be $687 for part and labor...needless to say it is hot in the car and defogger doesn't work right either when it is humid cause of no air..accident waiting to happen...one of at least 15 things that have gone wrong in this car

My 00 " Faucus", hence its real nickname:"F'en Faucus !!" Its dead set going into winter, Oregon is one of the worst for me so far. The heater/defroster no longer works. No warning either. Not just the crapy extended "warranty" crap, but the cost of the "DEDUCTIBLE!!" TO GET IT DONE. Oh My Dang It ! Could it get any worse with this thang? It has a wonderful surging problem on top of it all, but usually just in summer. Now in the winter I have no heater? And the deductible they chose on their own is a gasping $$$100.00!! Dang It !! is there no justice to the damn industry for us car owners? They won't let me find the right menace either. They keep bouncing me around their site. Anyone else... Have U had this problem already? & What exactly did U have repaired???? I am very able but very disabled. So here is my problem... My husband is cut off from this one, I can't do it, & a friend of mine says, "Oh that's gotta be the relay", OK SMART GUY, WHICH ONE?? I am told by an "unknower" that there are about roughly [I'm guessing to remember what he said] #30 DIFFERENT FUSES & RELAYS. IN JUST THAT ONE LITTLE CAR. Ok then grrrrreeereaat! Would FORD at least help me find the one? & I will glady buy the damn thing from them! I just want to survive this terrible winter & my car too! They have been horrible at "Clint newel" Cadillac, my warranty provider, but get this, they sub-contract me-EA. TIME-to LITHIA. If there were a worse Place than this? No there is not!! They need to be shut down like their other sister dealer of the same name. but tha's a whole 'nother topic. Please journey thru this horribly long "novel" & try to email me if you have a [solution]. Only a solution though please, I am so frustrated that it's still broke. I have to stop here... so I can. LOLOL!! Thanks AutoBeef for being here. I really am not better now but I may feel better if someone helps me thru this. I appreciate the chance to be here!

Very Truly, Angie Benedict Thanks to all!

You buy a new car to have less problems but I never think that this Focus is going to give to me a lot of trouble.
