I sat in my car for almost an hour trying to get it to go. I then went on the web and ordered the part via the phone after finding a phone number for someone. Apparently ford uses a different (better) cylinder lock in Europe so the ones here in the U.S. use smaller cylinder pieces and they break easily. I found I could start the car if I put the key in the ignition and beat the key into the cylinder with a rubber mallet (terrible idea for a long term solution). I got the piece and tried to install it myself, but of course I couldn't. I took it to a mechanic and when he replaced it he had to re-computerize (or something) the keys so that cost way more than I wanted to spend. I wanted to spend NOTHING because this is just a ridiculous problem to have with a car. My next car will be a Honda civic hybrid or something other than ford.

After going home on my lunch break.I returned to my car and proceeded to start the engine when the key wouldn't fit in the ignition. I tried and tried for about 20 minutes to no avail.I went back inside to get my spare key. This didn't work either. Finally about 30 minutes after my lunch break had ended, I got the key to go in but it wouldn't turn.Don't worry Ford I managed to get a ride back to the job. This cost $400 to replace the cylinder lock and two days without my car. What the %$#@!!!! My little car has been overall pretty reliant up until this point of chaos. No one had answers to why this happened, which means that I probably shouldn't rule out it NOT happening again. This is big deal that FORD should recall. After reading the numerous complaints on this issue,I see that I'm not the only one to experience this problem.Whether or not I choose to invest in another FORD is very questionable now.I will definitely spread the word about this problem.
