Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. The front subframe is rusted through and has a hole about 8" wide. Scary that this holds the vehicles steering system and the entire front of the vehicle together. How many people will need to get hurt" how many cars will fall apart before something is done? why recall the Windstar and not the Focus"

2002 Ford Focus FX5. Consumer requests reimbursement for repair costs the consumer stated his vehicle failed inspection due to a rotted front cross member. The consumer had to purchase a used cross member in order to pass inspection.

Front cross member on my 2002 Ford Focus rotted through. Failed ri state inspection. Was advise by Rhode Island attorney general who forwarded this complaint to you and advise me to follow up on it. I have pictures & dvd to show the severity of the rot. The rest of the undercarriage was still in excellent condition. Updated 06/22/10.

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Focus. The contact took his vehicle to the dealer for routine inspection. He was advised that the front cross member had excessive corrosion. He called an authorized dealer and was informed that the component needed to be replaced at the cost of $800. He is in the process of having the vehicle repaired. The manufacturer stated that the component was not covered under warranty. The contact has possession of the failed component. The failure and current mileages were 60,000. Updated 07/28/09. The consumer was informed the excessive corrosion was the result of not having adequate corrosion protection at the time of manufacturing and it was in danger of failing. Updated 07/31/09.,

I have driven my Ford Focus SE wagon now for about two years. It is a company car for which I drive approximately 50,000miles per year. I have had to replace the rear tires three times since receiving the vehicle December 2001. Every 20,000 miles the rear alignment gets loose and especially in winter driving on wet pavement, I fear for my life because when I cannot travel at the speeds of surrounding traffic flow. There is a vibration in the rear tires caused possibly to a bent frame or poor design. I have never replaced the front tires or even rotated them since new! they are still plenty adequate for traction. The rear alignment problem severely hampers the fuel economy of the vehicle because it feels as though I am dragging the rear end around everywhere I go. I am turning the vehicle in this next month for a replacement and I have decided I will never purchase a Ford vehicle again due to the history of bad luck I have had with Ford in the past.
