Surprised that the mechanics had no idea. You have to wait for the engine to warm up before you check your oil. The ford manual

hints at it but you have to read between the lines.

Focus ZX3 2.0L

  • Manual transmission
  • 1,000 miles

I do not know if other Ford Focus' with this engine have this problem but when the oil dipstick is removed after the car has sat overnight the dipstick is dry indicating that there is no oil in the engine! If the dipstick is reinserted it will read the proper oil level. This could cause someone to add oil when no oil is needed.
