CarComplaints.com Notes: Even though the first model year of a major redesign should typically be avoided, Ford did a good job & the 2008 Ford Focus doesn't appear to have any major defects.

That said, the following model years of this 2nd generation Focus (2009-2011) do appear to be slightly better.

Change the ignition switch because the car wouldn't start worked for for two months and it went out again the mechanic said it was the part so I exchanged the part lets see how long this will last. I was having problems with the ignition switch at 90000 miles what a piece of junk the car has to be causing a short and Ford should of have a recall on the ignition switch years ago there is way to many complaints

The part that wore out, is between the starter switch and the key tumbler. It is what turns the switch on the starter module, under the steering wheel. This part has a cost of 500.00, and there is a limited supply of them. I found only, 3 left, in Phoenix, for it is a much sought after item. I am on a limited income, and the cost is too much for me. I now have to start my car with a screw driver, till I can find or come up with the money to buy a replacement part. This sucks for I Deliver Pizza for Domino's, and the switch just wore out. Bad design !!!

The ignition switch quit starting the car. I had the ignition switch replaced and a locksmith rebuilt the lock on he ignition switch. He said that this problem would reoccur becuse of the way it is built. He had to make new keys. Shoddy work Ford.

I am extremely nervous that I will be stranded somewhere because I never know if my car will eventually turn on. I called my to see what the cost would be and was told anywhere from 250 to 500. dollars. I called Ford and they just offered to log my info in case there is a recall. I am not sure what has to happen before they decide to fix their faulty equipment but I sure hope I don't have to get hurt for that ford to pay attention to their unsafe product.

As of today this problem still exists. It happened today. I cannot believe all the crap that is happening. I only realized it until I saw the other complaints as well and it is the starter grinding when I go to turn the key, nothing. It grinds and whines so loud it sounds like a cable is gonna bust. Not to mention that the key has gotten stuck in it about 15 times over the course of the 5yrs I have had it. When you go to park and you turn the key off, the steering wheel locks so hard that you cannot get the key out or move it forward. Both my remotes are chipped, I have had to practically rip the steering wheel off to unlock it.

With all the other stuff it has wrong with it, this is just another thing I cannot afford to fix and can't wait for it to go all together. I really feel that I'm going to have them repo this car and go to court.I was ripped off anyway from the dealer on this car I paid $10,000 on this piece of crap in 2010 and still owe $7,000. In 5yrs I've put about $3000 into it and had it refinanced.

I bought a lemon and they knew it and its been taken to a mechanic more than any other vehicle I have ever owned, this car is a total nightmare !!!
