CarComplaints.com Notes: You should probably steer clear of the 2012 Focus. Otherwise, you might not be able to steer at all.

The 2012 is the first Focus to offer Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS). It's also the first year with massive power steering failure. These things are not mutually exclusive.

And while you wait for your steering to disappear, you'll be greeted with a transmission that shudders, vibrates or won't shift at all.

This car has a "rolling backwards" problem even on a slight incline. A few days after I purchased this vehicle I was stopped at a red light that had a slight incline when the car started to roll backwards. Behind me was a Police Vehicle which I almost rolled back into. I was able to pump the brake pedal quickly to prevent hitting the vehicle behind me, but after I made the turn the officer turned on his lights and pulled me over.

Thankfully the officer knew about the "roll back problem" because he stated that he had a Ford Focus himself with the same problem, and let me go with a warning to "be careful".

Ford Motor Company has also known about this for many years and REFUSES to do anything about it on the Ford Focus, and I am not sure if the "double clutch" is/was used on any other model vehicles.

Ford is KNOWINGLY ALLOWING defective cars on the road, along with other Government Agencies who have received thousands of complaints about this "problem".

I don't believe all the money that I used as a down payment for the 2012 Ford Focus that I purchased 2/2012 and traded the car in 10/2012 and had to come up with another down payment because of the transmission shifting problem. There should be a lawsuit to be able to retain the money that was used and wasted. The Ford transmission settlement did not include this issue.

There was apparently a recall for this to reset the computer in the car. Well guess what, Ford? About half the time my car will STILL roll backwards on a hill in drive. Awesome.

Is TRANSMISSION SLIPPAGE safe? Hell no it's not safe! Let's let CEO of FORD try it out!

Any way, it scares the hell out of me, my husband will not drive my car because of the slippage he prefers to drive his 1983 Chevy C-10 he says it's safer than my car. I'm starting to think the same way.

I shouldn't have to pay for a rental because they need to keep my car for more than a day. Ford SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!

February 2012-service writer acts like I am nuts, tells me there is no problem. Then I receive a letter in the mail for recall later in the year, do not remember when exactly, take in vehicle am told it is a software glitch, car seems to work well for another 6 months. Then it starts doing the same thing. Next time have car in for oil change tell service writer who tells me there is no problem. Each time I take it in for oil change tell a different service writer about the incline issue and I am told there is no problem.

See on this website that there is a known problem that Ford does not care to address. It is a good thing there are not too many inclines in the San Antonio/Boerne TX, that instance is prevalent.
