CarComplaints.com Notes: The Freestar was introduced in 2004, but it was essentially just a rebranded Windstar. While there was a redesign of the interior and exterior, the Freestar still inherited some of the design flaws of its predecessor.

complete corrosion of sub frame

The frame has a big rust hole in it. I'm sure it isn't safe. Ford should recall these things or buy them back..the rust is awful, just like on the third row seating they recalled it for.

While having the 2004 Freestar in for seatbelt recall (which was for corrosion), Ford told me the sub frame was unsafe due to rust (vehicle is ready to fall apart) . The 1999-2003 Windstar was recalled for Sub frame rust, Ford has not done a thing to change this problem that they had with the Windstar except of course get out of the minivan business.
