Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

My 2007 Ford Freestyle has been accelerating without the gas pedal being pressed. It usually occurs when in reverse. It does not do it everytime. The last few days it has been doing it in drive as well. Today it was enough to cause the warning light to come on. I was able to stop my vehicle with the brakes. This is getting worse and I am afraid it may lead to an accident.

I purchased a used Ford Freestyle 2007 model in April and after having the car that I love and felt safe with my children in, it began to act crazy!! it lunges when pulling in to park or backing out of a parking spot. It scares me now to put my kids in it!!! today after it lunged a couple different times the check engine light came on. While attempting to park at the store I almost hit a parked car and couldn't control the Freestyle!! it seems to be worse if the air is on. After one of the lunging fits today a wrench light came on and then there was no power at all. I pulled over turned it off and restarted it the light went out and power came back! something really needs to be done!!!

The transmission causes performance issues. The transmission jerks, rattles, doesn't pull, causes the engine to stop while traveling or parked in traffic. Causes sudden jerking while driving, backing up and starting off. It also jerks violently when the vehicle is put in drive or reverse even before starting to drive. While driving the transmissions causes the vehicle to be slow to change speed. This is a serious safety hazard cause while driving the vehicle jerks so violently that it risk hitting another vehicle or pedestrian.

Throttle body system problem. Car lunging at low speeds and when the driver is not pressing the acceleration pedal; sudden and unexpected. More apparent when the vehicle's air conditioning system is on or when the steering wheel is turned sharply. Past loyal Ford customer. This was a brand new purchase. Problem started again after the hydraulic control unit was replaced in 2008. I have had all I can take; visited dealership today (3-02-212)! please Ford correct this for the sake of your customers.

While approaching a red stop light under light braking from 35 mph, I lessened the pressure on the brake pedal to reduce the rate of deceleration. At approximately 10 mph, the engine RPM surged up and the vehicle lunged forward. My foot was on the brake at all times and I was able to safely bring the vehicle to a full stop without entering the intersection. At no time during the incident was any pressure applied to the accelerator as my right foot was on the brake pedal. The engine and transmission were cold (external temp @ 34 degrees F) and I had traveled approximately.5 miles after starting the vehicle with about a 30 second warm up period.

I bought my 2007 Ford Freestyle AWD in June 2011 with approximately 72,000 miles on it. It started having a whining noise - almost like a pump - after the 75000 mile mark passed. I was not able to purchase an extended warranty because they are not available to purchase after 75K miles. I addressed the noise complaint with a mechanic and after replacing the power steering pump, the noise did not subside. A couple of months later, the traction control light would come on intermittently for no reason; but then go off once the car was restarted. The noise increased slightly, and 2 days after the increase in noise, the transmission failed suddenly. I was driving at approximately 45 miles per hour on the road, and the wrench light and traction control lights both went on and the RPM's went through the roof while acceleration slowed. I was able to get to the side of the road because I had enough speed going from seconds before the transmission failed. No other gears worked. After the vehicle was towed to the garage, I was told the transmission was completely wrecked; and this problem is one that the transmission technician has seen often from Ford Freestyle's. I contacted Ford customer relations and they told me that there was no assistance that they could offer me. Online automotive forums are packed with complaints from customers who had similar experiences to mine - transmissions failing long before they should; and often in a timeframe when no extended warranty is available. Now, I cannot replace the transmission with a used one because it is likely it will fail again; and my only logical purchase is to get a Ford remanufactured one for $4000+ because it is the only one with a 3 year warranty. Losing a transmission is dangerous - had I been going uphill slowly; been driving in bad weather; or in any other likely situation, it could have been much worse.

How many complaints have to be made before a recall is made. Does someone have to die. For over 2 years, I have asked my Ford dealership about recalls on my vehicle because I have the same problems as the other complainants. I had to replace my transmission after my warranty ran out but I complained about it well before it ran out. No one seemed to be able to figure out what was happening until after the warranty ran out. I made several complaints about the performance which may have not been recorded under my VIN. My complaint date and mileage is inaccurate because I don't know when my first complaint was. My VIN history will tell it all if proper records were kept. My throttle signal just came on today and I have to take it back in to see about that. We need a recall now! don't wait until it's too late!!!

This car has a bad surge problem especially when the fan is on. My foot will be on the brake and it will just lunge forward. I cannot run the air in the summer or the car will just cut off more noticeably when I am turning a corner. I have had the throttle cleaned and continue to have the same problem.

Bought a 2007 Ford Freestyle in March 2011 and started having problems shortly after. Was told it has cvt and it acts up sometimes. My problems are lunging, rough idle, engine dying. Have been just dealing with it and using recommended fuel and occasional injector cleaner. This weekend( Jan 8 2012) I went to change air filter, check tire pressure, etc. I followed the directions in the manual to reset the idle trim and now the vehicle will not move at all. It will idle with no A/C, but the gas pedal does nothin. When you turn A/C on it dies. We have not hit anyone or anything, but have come close once or twice. We drive the vehicle with the anticipation that its gonna move without warning. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Multiple times waiting on traffic at stop lights, stop signs or just waiting to turn. My Ford Freestyle will lurch forward nearly striking the car in front of me or propelling me into oncoming traffic and once nearly striking my wife while she was attempting to get into the vehicle. The Freestyle will also stall in traffic while crossing intersections or simple pulling away from stops.

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that when having the brakes applied, the vehicle would lunge forward and the engine RPM's would increase drastically. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where they advised him that the fuel injection system had failed. In addition, the contact would hear a loud noise from the vehicle when driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised him that he needed a new transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was approximately 74,000. The VIN was unavailable.

We purchased the 2007 Ford Freestyle only one month ago from a dealer in blair Nebraska who certified that there were no problems with the vehicle purchased. We have not owned this vehicle for more than a month. While driving today with the family (children included) down the freeway the vehicle stopped accelerating in the center of heavy traffic. Lucky no accident was caused! the vehicle started lurching and then would not go over 25 mph. We are understanding that there are several complaints about this vehicle performing the same way with many others in class action and forums.

The car stalls out and I get the wrench on my dashboard. The car will restart after a few minutes and runs fine at that point. This apparently means that there is a powertrain fault detected. When the diagnostics were ran they pulled the code U0401 and the dealer told me that there were alot of Freestyles and Mercury's with this code and that it would be $280 to diagnose the problem.
