CarComplaints.com Notes: Ford significantly updated the Fusion for the 2010 model year. We wish they hadn't

Throttle body issues have led to a ton of reports about a sudden deceleration and loss of power while driving. Ford issued a “customer satisfaction program” in March 2014 that, unsurprisingly, has left very few customers satisfied.

2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

I was driving when I received a "service power steering" indicator on the dash. A minute or two later I also receive an "service advancetrac" indicator. The power steering was still working at that point and I parked the car and turned it off to check what was wrong. Once I turned the car back on I received a "service power steering now" indicator on the dash. At this point the power steering was no longer working. I could not drive the car as it was much too difficult to turn the steering wheel. I had the car towed and brought to a local Ford dealer. I had to leave it there and rent a car as I was visiting from out of town and had to return home. The Ford service dealer called and told me I had to replace the power steering system. $1600. Ouch

I have a 2010 Ford Fusion with less than 80K miles on it. The power steering went out on this vehicle while my wife was driving with our 3 year old in the backseat. She was barely able to get it off the road, as well as return the vehicle home. This is extremely dangerous! the only warning light that turned on was the service power steering message and the service advancetrak message. I took the vehicle to my mechanic they were able to see trouble codes, and cleared them. The drove the vehicle about 15 miles and were not able to replicate the problem. We picked up the vehicle 7/11/17 and drove 15 miles home and left for the night. 7/12/15 the morning of, my wife proceeded to drive the vehicle 3 miles and sure enough same problem happened to her while driving. For the life of me I cannot understand this issue. Why is there a recall for the 2011 vehicles but not for 2010, which from my understanding is what sparked the entire recall period. Ford needs to remedy this issue, or provide a fix for the vehicle.

My 2010 Ford Fusion has come up with a "power steering assist fault" and "service advancetrac" messages on the dash board. This causes the steering in the vehicle to be stiff and very dificult to make a turn on the road. I managed to make it home driving at a reduced speed and by avoiding making turns when possible to prevent an accident.

Electric power steering went out while driving on state highways, making it almost impossible to drive, steer to a safe place just to prevent a head on collision.without any warning driving and out of nowhere electric power steering goes out while in a curve I can guarantee you the average driver will end up in a crash, possibly dead. I was only lucky no one was coming towards me. Cost was around 1,200$ at Ford dealership. I'm not sure the date of the incident, it was over a year ago.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact, a mechanic, stated that there was a sudden loss of power steering, the warning lights flashed to service the eps, and the stability traction control and various warning indicators flashed. The contact had to coast the vehicle over to the side of the road and restart it, but the failure continued. The vehicle was diagnosed by a dealer who indicated that the rack and pinion needed to replaced. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed a leak from the air conditioner drain on top of the steering gear. It was diagnosed that the steering wheel angle sensor in the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15V340000 (steering). The contact indicated that the dealer's mechanical diagnosis was a sufficient solution to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.

The power steering assist fault indicator will not reset. Loss of power steering. How can Ford have a recall for the 2011 and 2012 Fusion but not the 2010? this is very dangerous when you lose power steering while your driving.

2 warning service errors will show up and power steering becomes disabled as driving on residential street. Power steering became completely disabled by the time the tow truck came to pick it up. Mechanic stated it was the same codes as the recall for 2011 Ford Fusion. Had to take it to the Ford dealer to have it correctly fixed. Stated it was the steering rack assembly. Looked up issue and many others with Fusion has the same exact issue but no recall on 2010 models. Same issue and fix for the Ford Fusion with recalls (2011 and above) extremely dangerous as power steering went out and could have caused a life threatening crash. Luckily my fiance (future husband) was driving the car as I would have not been strong enough to safely pull over by turning the wheel.

Power steering fault appeared on dashboard while driving and steering became hard to control. Turned ignition switch off and restarted power steering was working again. Carried car in for service I was told everything was normal. Now it's happened 4 or 5 times. Being that it's out of warranty now its out again.

We were driving to pick up our daughter when the service power steering now and service advancetrac came on the message board. We lost power steering to the car. Luckily my mom's house wasn't far from our house. We got home safe and called the next day about repairs and found out it was over $1500. That is something we can't afford with a family. Come to find out many people have this problem with the same make and model and have gotten it fixed but the problem keeps reoccurring. This is very disappointing to hear about this car. This was my wife's dream car and now we find out its not as safe as Ford claims it is.

Service advancetrac system 2010 Ford Fusion SE 6spd manual, completely loses power at random times, has occurred 4 times in 5 days. Will be driving along at 40 to 45 mph straight or turning at 5 to 10 mph or even going up a straight, slight incline and the vehicle just loses power completely, the dashboard lights up and the service advancetrac system error message appears. I turn car off, yes in the midst of traffic with other drivers honking horns and praying no one runs into me, wait 5 seconds and then try to start the vehicle, which it does restart, however the service advancetrac error message remains. When the vehicle sits for more than a few hours the error message will not appear. It only comes on when the vehicle shuts off completely, which by the way is going to get me killed. I am a single mother working two jobs making the time to take it to the shop is difficult, however I will be taking it today (3/14/16). Losing power while driving 45 mph is not a safe situation for any driver on the road. Someone is going to get killed when this occurs. I see there have been several complaints for the same issue on the same year, make and model, Ford needs to address this situation quickly.

Unable to pull over immediately I drove to the nearest good year which offers free tire repair when out of no where the traction stability control kicked in on my car and my service screen said "service power steering now" I maintained control of the vehicle until I got to good year where they discovered that I had no power steering.

The electronic power steering on this vehicle is defective. I've only had this vechile for about a year and a half and heve had several major issues with it. The power steering problem has been the biggest issue. I was originally told the the part was on recall, then after jumping through several hoops I ended up having to pay $1314.17 to have it fixed myself. Less than 24 hours after picking the car up from the dealership the same problems are occurring, the electronic power steering completely went out again while driving on the highway. This part needs to be recalled on all vehicles, it is very dangerous to be driving and completely loose control of your vehicle on the highway. Thankfully, I was able to gain control of the car this time, but it could have been much worst. I have and will continue to file complaints against Ford until this defective part until something is done.

While driving a message appeared on the instrument panel, "have power steering serviced", within a few seconds "have advance trac system serviced" warning appeared. I shut off the car. Upon restarting the car there was a total failure of the power steering system. It was impossible to drive the car due to the difficulty of turning the steering wheel. I detected a slight burning smell. The car had to be towed to the dealer. Repair invoice states an internal fault of electric power steering. Rack and pinion system had to be replaced. Mileage at the time was 60,402. If this would have happened on the highway or on a busy road there would have been great potential for an accident.
