CarComplaints.com Notes: Ford significantly updated the Fusion for the 2010 model year. We wish they hadn't

Throttle body issues have led to a ton of reports about a sudden deceleration and loss of power while driving. Ford issued a “customer satisfaction program” in March 2014 that, unsurprisingly, has left very few customers satisfied.

2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

I started my car up and shifted into drive. Once I started driving. I got a message saying power stearing fault. I was not able to turn the wheel and steer the card. I had to put my car into park and turn off the engine off. I then restarted the engine and the issue was gone. This has happened 3 time now just after starting my car. After having my car checked over the dealer finds nothing wrong on a test drive. Can you please look into this.

I was driving the car when all of a sudden I lost power steering. Then the service steering now light came on. This seems to be an issue with this make and model of vehicle. I did not have any warning or anything. It made steering the vehicle almost impossible and I had my children in the car with me. This really should be on the recall list especially since its all electric steering.

Power steering failure, backing out of the driveway and discoved no power steering. Reported to raceway Ford in riverside ca, dough hall said there's no recall on it and can fix @ a costly price....however...NHTSA's initial investigation of the 2010 Fusion cars found the power steering faults increase as the cars get older, and failure rates are similar to previous power steering investigations of other Ford models. Safety regulators say the 2016 preliminary investigation is now upgraded to an engineering analysis to determine if the 263,000 model year 2010 Ford Fusion cars should be recalled.

While driving on a two lane highway in the rain, my "check power steering soon" warning came on. Within a mile, the message changed to "check power steering now" & all power steering was lost. It appears that this issue has been recalled in other years of this model, but not the 2010 fprd Fusion hybrid.

My car was in motion while driving in NY city traffic; the power steering went out and we received the advanctrac / service power steering now message. It was diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed replaced. My mechanic told me it was going to cost 400 dollars alone for the part. I looked at this issue online and countless people seem to he having the same issue the 2010 Ford Fusion but Ford has not have a recall for it yet. I'm still driving it, times are hard I cant afford this expense.

I was driving my 2010 Ford Fusion SE on a highway and suddenly the steering wheel locked up and became extremely difficult to turn. I was fortunate enough to be able to turn into a local shopping mall. An alert popped up in the dash that said service electrical power steering. I called my local Ford service company and the service technician explained that this was a recall on the rack and pinion/ steering gear for my car model. He explained to me that this was a recall and unfortunately a common issue with the vehicle I had. However, I found out that my VIN was not included in this recall, and was informed that I would have to pay for the repairs myself. I called the Ford company and explained to them the issue thinking that they would simply add my vehicle and I was told that my VIN wasn't included. I explained to them how they could call my local dealership where my car was being repaired to confirm what I said was true, however, I was told they wouldn't do that. I asked to speak to a supervisor and the supervisor called a day later. She told me that at this time my car would not be added to the recall. I asked her how and why they came to this conclusion and she informed me that this was protocol. I asked her if they did any research into why my VIN was not added the first time, or double checked to see if there was an oversight as to why my VIN was not added and she told me that they did not look into my issue or claim, she just listened to the call, and called me back to inform me that at this time the would not add my car to the recall list. I asked her who decided to add the vehicles was it Ford or NHTSA and she informed me she did not know. I again ask her how I can get someone to review this issue as this is a serious recall and matter. I explained to her that I could have been on the interstate when the steering went out. She told me to contact NHTSA.

The electronic power steering has failed. When I start the vehicle I get the error message 'power steering assist fault'. I started receiving this error message around 70,000 miles but before I could turn the car off and the error message would be gone and the power steering would kick in after a few seconds. The epas has now completely failed. Like many other Fusion owners have found, all Ford dealers around the columbus, Ohio area quote the repair price being in excess of $1,600.

Had this fixed less than a year ago to the tune of $1700. Here we are again. It's just a matter of time when the power steering fails again. Service advancetrac warning illuminated while accelerating on dry interstate. This is a safety hazard. People who can't afford the fix will end up in an accident.
