CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2011 Fusion builds off the 2010's reputation. That's not a good thing.

The first thing that jumps out is the ridiculous amount of power steering complaints. It grinds, it squeals, and it eventually just fails.

And if losing power steering isn’t enough for you, how about a sudden loss of engine power? That combination is enough to achieve clunker status.

Can't open driver's door without opening window first. What happens when there is an emergency (crash) and you need to get out, but maybe now the window won't work????? A really cheap piece of crap part that is supposed to do a very significant job!!

The inside driver's side door latch suddenly quit working. Watched a Youtube and saw how you can pull the lock and latch back at the same time and gingerly open the door. I plan to get it fixed.

My driver door will not open from the inside. I got home from work and went to open my door and I heard something fall. The door wouldn't open. So now I have to let my window down, reach out and open my door before turning my car off. So if it is raining, I get wet. If I was in a car wreck or in trouble and needed to get out of my car quickly, I wouldn't be able to. This is a safety issue. If they have recalls on the 2010, 2013 and others, they should have a recall on the 2011 as well!!

Also because it won't open from the inside, this also causes the door lock not to work. So I can lock my car, but anyone can open my door and get in. Sometimes the alarm might go off, and sometimes it won't. Grrr….

I had went to several places this morning and things were normal until I got to the doctor's office with my son. Then I went to get out and the door wouldn't open and I tried everything I could and still nothing worked so I had to get my son to open up the door on the outside so I could get out. I don't have the money to pay an outrageous bill to get this fixed. Why did this suddenly happen? This is scary if I was in a wreck or something else that I couldn't get out as fast as I needed. Could this be that the child lock is on but if it is I didn't have it locked?

Good Morning , it is a good morning because our daughter is alive and well. I am here writing this because we purchased a 2011 For Fusion from Winner Ford in Cherry, Hill NJ for our 17 year old daughter two summers ago (2016) The Fusion was in excellent condition and had extremely low millage.

Our daughter drove the car to and from school (appropriately 3 miles) & to and from work (also appropriately 3 miles) for her senior year in high school. Last year she was away at school and the car remained in our driveway. This summer while home from school she drove home from work ( 11 pm ) and parked the car in the driveway and when she went to get out of the car she was unable to do so. The car door handle was inoperable. She began to slightly panic and call her father from her cell phone.

My husband went out and opened the door from the exterior. I contacted the dealership and was informed the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty would not cover the cost of the $199.03 repair. I am grateful today to GOD that she was not driving and had an accident and needed to get out of the car SAFELY and QUICKLY when this malfunction of FORD equipment FAILED. I then contacted FORD Motor Company Department of Customer Care to report the issue.

I was informed that due to the fact the cars paper work stated it was December of 2010 (the car is 7 years old) it was out of the 7 year 150,000 miles manufacturer warranty and therefor FORD would not cover the cost of the repair. Imagine telling that to the family of a child who might not be lucky enough to SAFELY get out of an automobile or any individual that drives their FORD FUSION. I am NOT the only individual experiencing this issue with this make and model.

It is incumbent upon a company such as Ford to respond to its consumers concerns regarding SAFETY. I was not replacing a head light - you can't replace a loved one. I am appalled at the lack of concern showed not only from my dealership, from which I purchased 2 automobiles , but from FORD MOTOR COMPANY itself. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND POTENTIAL LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. I would truly appreciate others who have experienced this same issue to contact me.

Pulled into work this morning and the driver side door wouldn't let me out. Made me late. The weather is good so I opted to climb out the window, like we all did when we pretended we were driving in the General Lee, rather than climbing across to exit the passenger side door. Bought this car used last year and have since had other problems with the same door (broken door check arm, door alignment is off). Saw the numerous complaints about Fusion door handles breaking so I ordered a new interior door handle for $24.99 from Amazon, planning to fix Saturday with the aid of YouTube

All of a sudden, the drivers side door would not open from inside. Need to roll window down, reach out of car, and open with outside handle. Manual Door lock is not working correctly either, and seems to be stuck in the out position (or maybe locked). Not sure how to fix, but hate to be spending money.

Tried to open my driver's door from inside and felt the door handle go loose and then door would not open. I called Northstar Ford dealership, gave the service rep my VIN, and was told there is a recall on the door handle latches for my car. I made the earliest appointment (which was after the August long weekend). I was told they had to order the part from the US but that they could order it as an emergency because "doors not opening from the inside is a safety issue."

When I arrived at Northstar Ford in Calgary for my appointment I was told there would be a $189 diagnostic fee to see what the problem with the door is. I was then told that there is no recall on door latches for the 2011 Ford Fusion models, only the 2010, 2013 and 2014 Ford Fusions. WHAT IS UP FORD? How can Ford not support the same problem on different years? It is a SAFETY ISSUE not being able to open the doors from the inside and obviously there are many other people with the exact same problem. I am VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH FORD and NORTHSTAR FORD dealership – AGAIN.

Ford dealships charging over$400 to replace, what a rip off.

Ford has recalled the door hatch on 2010 models and 13-14 models. Nothing on the 2011. If the problem is known it should be recalled for any vehicle with the issues. Safety Hazard?

All I know is I got in the car, drove to my destination & got out of the car. When I came back to get in the car my driver side door would not open from the outside. So I had to crawl in from the passenger side. Once I unlocked the door I could not open it from the inside. It's like it's not even trying to open. I can open it from the outside, but not the inside. I have to roll my window down in order to get out of the car. Which is really REALLY annoying & a pain in my rear. This should be a recall that ford should fix for free because I did nothing wrong to cause this to happen.

My door handle won't work and I have discovered that the same part is recalled on other models but not on the 2011. This is a safety issue as I have to crawl out my passenger side door. I have found the part online for about 60 bucks and I'm pissed that Ford covers this for other customers and refuses to for me. I have filed a complaint with Ford, complaint #CAS11929128) as well as with NHTSA - National Highway Traffic Safety Administration complaint #10967210, and with CAS - Center for Auto Safety and waiting on complaint to be reviewed. My wish is that Ford adds the 2011 Ford Fusion to the interior door handle recall and covers all cost of repairs for this safety issue.

My 2011 Ford Fusion is a nice vehicle, except the "Power Steering" recall that just got fixed (recalled) last week while my wife was out of town. Once I received the car and my wife got back home, she got in the car and could not start it. I had to come from work and jumped the car. Took it to O'reilly's & Auto Zone two different nights to see If it needed a battery. Battery, starter and alternator all checked out as good from both locations. They said I needed to drive the car for a while to get the "juice" back into the electrical system. Seemed to work. Wife went out for business this evening and when she got home, she called me from the drive-way and COULD NOT GET OUT OF THE CAR------WHAT??? YES, that is what I said. Went out and tried to open the door from the outside---it opened. She went into the house and I started the car, turned it off and tried to "OPEN THE DOOR." COULD NOT DO IT!!!!! Tried to unlock with my FOB, tried to unlock the vehicle and could not do it. OH------I rolled down the window and opened the door from the outside. I thought........ "THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS" Came inside, WITHOUT HAVING TO CALL MY WIFE TO GET ME OUT OF THE CAR, did a little work on the computer and decided o go to this site where I found out about the "Power Steering" recall a few weeks ago and saw the other articles that were written....so here I am!!!!!!

Thoroughly upset of this "potentially dangerous problem" and I have to rent a vehicle to get this "potentially fixed.' WHAT IS NEXT????

Arrive to my destination as I park and shut off car I reached for handle driver side door as I usually do upon getting out of car but to my surprise it only opens slightly to where it's ajar. I let go of door handle and attempt to open again only this time I won't open, I felt no release on door handle. I ended up asking my daughter to open my door from outside as I thought maybe there was a jam somewhere. I checked inside of door but that all looked fine and I attempt this again and only this no ajar, the door does not open slightly and I feel no release from door handle.

Not sure what to do as I research it looks like there has only been a recall for certain models and I'm unsure of cost for repairs😡

The door was working fine today, ran some errands, however, after I left a doctor's appointment, I drove to a supermarket and couldn't get out of the car on the driver's side. It partially opened, but wouldn't budge further. I ended up climbing over to the other side, but realized that I can just lower the window and open the door using the outside handle. Will make some inquiries and a reputable shop around the corner may give me a good price since this is not covered under the extended Ford warranty. This should be a warranty issue anyway since others are having a problem. This could be a dangerous situation if there were to be a fire, etc.

Update from Dec 23, 2016: A local Mazda dealership performed the repairs to the tune of $257 and change.
