CarComplaints.com Notes: Power steering problems started rearing their ugly head in the 2010 Fusion, so you'd think Ford had plenty of time to make sure those problems didn't creep into the 2012. But here we are.

The Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) is a mess. It fails at an alarming rate. Don’t believe us? Take a look at NHTSA’s data on the subject.

And much like the power steering, we’re still seeing the same throttle body failures that started in 2010 continue in 2012.

There was a recall for the power steering assist and it was Y taken in for service last year and today the power steering assist came on twice and I lost all power steering while driving the vehicle thank goodness I want going to fast and was able to pull the vehicle over and shut it off and back on and it was working again. This had happened a few months ago as well.

I went to stivers Ford about the air bag be to the end of January and the beginning of February the mechanic took my recall information said they would call me as soon as the new bags got in never heard from them I called every month only to be told nothing came in yet so I called Ford customers service they had me on hold the mechanic in montgomery stated that there was no record of me ever being there. Customer service left me on the phone with the mechanic to make an appointment she hung up the phone I gave the mechanic my first and last name then he repeated back to me my first and last name with my address keep in mind he had all of my information in the system the whole time. So I made an appointment for Friday May 31 2019. There is a faulty tire light on that won't go away even when I had the tire checked the car stopped in the middle of the intersection during the green light in heavy traffic the 🔧 light came on with the check engine light and the flashing faulty tire light. I put the car in park and turned off the engine then restarted the car and drove home I was very afraid because the cars behind me were moving pretty fast I was blessed to not be hit from behind. Next day drove the car to a repair shop. Every thing was working fine they ran a diagnosis showing the throttle was stuck and would not reset so it is stuck.

On March 11, 2019 as I was driving on the highway, the steering wheel locked up and with all my strength was barely able to navigate my 2012 Ford Fusion safely to my home. During this incident I had the 'service power steering now' indication on the ipc (instrument panel cluster) as well and an advantrac (Ford's traction control system) light. The following day I called and asked the Ford service advisor if there had been a recall in the past for power steering issues on this model. He said no but for me to take the car in for a diagnostic check. I had my car towed to corwin Ford on March 12 for a check-up. On such date I get a call from corwin Ford noting they would need to replace epas and front suspension front and rear lower control arms for $3,420. And once again, the service advisor stated that there had never been a recall for this issue. I can't afford to fix this issue and will be having my car towed back to my house tomorrow. I paid Ford $144 today for the service check.

Vehicle was stationary when power steering went out and advance trac. Dealership fails to acknowledge why they advise a new power steering rack and new control arms. Was told control arms are seizing up putting too much stress on the power steering and shortening it out. Why not perform the recall work first to see if it fixes it rather than propose almost $4,000 worth of repairs? the recall I'm referring to is 15V340 and 15S18

2012 Fusion with 62,000 miles. When stationary, it makes a sound when you turn the steering wheel just slightly either way. Mechanic says the electric rack and pinion is the problem and it sounds like this is a common issue. I don't think I should be having this issue at only 62,000 miles. This is a very expensive fix. Sounds to me like there should be a recall on this.

For no reason I got two warnings when driving stabilize and power steering. At the time my mom was driving. She couldn't turn as we were turning a corner and ended up in a ditch! from what I see this is a problem with a lot of other Ford Fusion! and this isn't recalled" theses shouldn't be going out already" my vehicle has 60K miles! we could have died!

Was driving around 35 mph and heard a clunk. A few seconds later and another clunk. Then heard a grinding noise and the loss of traction light came on, so I put my foot on the brake, at which point it became clear that the grinding noise was from ABS engaging. Slowed down to under 25, and it stopped these issues. Sped up to above 30, and the problems reoccurred. As these things happened, it became harder to steer. Car system was malfunctioning in some way to think I was losing traction and that ABS need to be engaged. There was no reason for any of this as I was traveling straight on a dry (sunny, no rain), straight road. Eventually the service advancetrac light came on as well. Was able to find a place to pull over by keeping the car under 25 mph (any speed above that seemed to re-engage the issue). Even at low speeds, loss of traction light and service advancetrac indicator remained on. This issue is dangerous as it makes the car harder to steer and control. I was lucky to be on a straight road with no other traffic.

Having issues with the advanctrac failure. This is the second time this has occurred the first was covered under warranty. This time the warranty has expired. Took it to the dealership and they quoted me a $1800 quote to fix. This is a issue that everyone with this vehicle is having. I came outside and my time had went flat when I proceed to add air to it and got in the car to leave. I had absolutely no power steering. At all. This is very dangerous.

When driving my 2012 Ford Fusion sel AWD, the power steering will (at random) cease to function and causes extreme difficulty in steering. It is nearly impossible to pull over safely. At speed this is an extremely dangerous and terrifying event. The lights for the traction control system, the power steering system, and occasionally the advance trac system come on. It is not always all of the lights all of the time, and the errors vary. I have had it looked at and the codes read, and the problem persists. I need this fixed as I have two small children that I refuse to allow to ride in the car as I'm afraid for their safety. It strands me at random at work and at school an hour from home as well. Upon cranking the lights for power steering failures come on and I have to sit and wait on a ride. This is unacceptable. Someone needs to fix this problem as every time I have called multiple Ford dealerships, they give me a runaround explaining there is no recall for this issue. This is unacceptable because the internet is rife with posters have the same exact issues I am having and are having no assistance either from Ford. Please help us with this problem, as I cannot afford to purchase a new car after this one has drained me of my resources.

My car takes about 2 mins to start. The gas acceleration goes from normal to slow when I'm driving. I go into reverse and my car stalls and jerks really hard. When I'm at a stoplight or a stop sign my car will act like it's losing power and the whole car shakes. The lights on the dash come on then disappear days later with new lights on such as check engine doors open ect. There are times I will be driving and my car will slow down on its own like I hit my breaks. When I was backing up going in reverse the car jerked and I hit someone however it was in a parking lot. There was no damage to the other vehicle. When I put the car back in drive after I had it in reverse from backing up I backed up again there has to be something wrong within the car itself. I'm worried about my safety as well as others. The malfunctioning of the car has been going on since about a month after I got it and it's been almost 2 months since it's beenin my possession.

Since owning the vehicle there have been instances where the power steering assist warning would flash on my dash, typically during cold weather. I could turn the car off and then back on and the issue resolved itself. I purchased the vehicle in late 2012. It happens when I go to start it after it sitting overnight or while I am at work for 8 hours. As of yesterday (6/18) I began having trouble with the power steering when I went to leave work and drive home. I turned the car off and turned it back on and the issue once again resolved itself. This morning (6/19) I went to start my car to leave for work and the power steering assist/advancetrac message flashed on my dash. The advancetrac notification is new, it never happened until this morning. I have no power steering whatsoever. I have read multiple reports of this happening to other Fusion of the same year as mine. The dealership told me that it would be $1500+ to repair this. It is an ongoing issue that has been happening sporadically since the vehicle was purchased.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. While driving approximately 45 mph, the "power steering assist fault" and "service advance track" warning messages displayed and the power steering suddenly malfunctioned. The steering wheel became difficult to turn. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer (brookland Ford in brookland, mi) were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 97,000.
