The floor on my driver's side was soaked after a rainy day under my floor mat. It must have been going on for a while and I wasn't aware. I removed and replaced the seals above the door with clear industrial caulking and haven't had the problem since. I have yet to check the material under the carpet, but I plan to when it gets warm. The cost to fix may be higher at that point.

Mustang V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 150,000 miles

My husband and I have been carpooling over the last 6 months, and therefore I have not been driving my Mustang. The last time I drove the car was about 2 1/2 months ago. This morning called for separate cars, so I got my keys and was ready to go to work. As soon as I opened the car door, a very fowl odor was coming from inside the car. I immediately started checking under the seats and in the back, thinking maybe I accidentally forgot a bag of groceries. It smelled like something had either died or was rotting. I walked around to the passenger side to check, and noticed the front seat flooring was SOAKING wet, slimy, and had a bunch of tiny, green worm-like bugs. I ran in and grabbed the vacuum and a towel to try to clean up as much as I could. It had rained pretty heavily the weekend prior so I checked the windows and weather stripping to see if maybe there was an issue there, but found nothing. At this point, NO idea what was the reason for this.

I drove my 1-hour commute to work with the windows down, and felt nauseas from the smell. I figured I would take the car into a detailer on my lunch break and have the car interior shampooed. When I got to the detailer, it was all but 5 minutes before the manager came out wanting to meet with me. He took me back and lead me to the driver's side of the car, lifting up the carpet to display about 1-2 inches of muddy, stagnant water, and pulled out padding that was covered in mildew. I mentioned that the driver's side wasn't where I noticed the dampness, and showed him what I was talking about on the passenger's side. He lifted the carpet there too, and it was worse, about 2-3 inches of puddled water. He went ahead and pulled out that padding as well, then checked the flooring in the back seat. Same thing even in the back. Sopping wet pad, mildew forming, and inches of water trapped under the carpet. We then tried to determine what the issue was, and found multiple websites discussing the same issue. How is this not a recall?

I contacted a Ford dealership to see if they have any experience with this and if this would be covered, and he said "leaks are not considered when determining safety recalls". I STRONGLY disagree with this. One: Is it not a safety issue if I'm allergic to mold? Do I honestly have to get sick before this becomes somewhat of a concern? Not to mention, this is a quality issue and that should be a concern too. Or does Ford not care about quality on one of their "premiere" vehicles? Not to mention, I STILL have an open recall on my vehicle for the passenger's side airbag AND the driver's side airbag recall (which was a nice little letter I received saying my airbag would spring fatal shards into the driver) took 16 MONTHS to fix.

Come to find out the carpet and padding will need to be replaced, which is estimated at about $1,200. I haven't had the leak repair estimated yet, but judging by others' experiences that looks like another grand.

Seriously? This is the last straw for me. It's no wonder people are buying foreign cars. I never had any issues like this with my Honda. Lesson learned here. No more Fords for me or anyone I know.

Has anyone had any luck getting Ford to fix this issue? I could understand if it was only a couple of cars, but this issue is all over Google search from other drivers.

Just a few months after the purchase of this car there was a notable leak that would occur during exposure to rain. The water would accumulate on the passenger side and at one point was so significant the front passenger and rear passenger side was filled over 3 inches with water. I had to dry out the electrical and carpet, deal with mold and brought it to the dealer for evaluation. The car has been at a dealer (has been to several) for weeks while they tried to figure the problem out. One dealer in San Luis Obispo was very attentive and really tried several theories for repair. However, despite the effort the water would enter the passenger side the same. I then found some YouTube videos that seemed to claim that they had the solution. Some stated that it was due to debris accumulating in the area just behind the cabin under the hood that would clog some sort of drain and instructed to just pull the drain rubber plug. I have not been able to fix this problem and the dealers look at me cross eyed when I take it in over and over trying new places. This should be a recall on many levels. Firstly, it has a potential to cause electrical problems. Secondly, it increases the risk of mold exposure--for people that are allergic it can be life threatening. Furthermore, the lack of attention to this detail which damages the interior of the car is astonishing to me as a business owner. I am going to try to fix this problem one more time and then I'm selling the car. Ford will have lost a potential repeat customer. I see hundreds of people online claiming the exact same problem. I don't know how it is possible for Ford to ignore it. I'm very disappointed.

water pouring in under the dashboard car wash/raining

Drove to the car wash today. My wife was in the front passenger seat. Pulling out from the car wash water began pouring on her feet. By the time I was able to pull over and stop there was a large puddle on the floor board. Now I realize recently she told me the Mustang had a mildew type smell inside. Guess this must be happening more than just this time.

Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix the issue? My Mustang is a 2006 convertible.

Thanks in advance for help

Mustang GT 4.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 101,572 miles

I've only known my wife for a year but from the first time we rode in her Mustang GT, she told me about how she was told of a sweating issue that the dealer told her the car had due to the leather seats. That I found out was the second time she took it to the dealer. The last time she tried to have something done about it they told her that it was a window seal that was leaking very slightly and that they adjusted it for her.

Well needless to say we had gotten flood rainfalls twice within the last month's time frame and both driver and passenger side floor boards are soaked with water along with the back passenger side floor. Last night my wife and her dad decided to start up the car to make sure the battery was still OK in it and let it run awhile to recharge the battery being she doesn't drive it much these days due to the moldy smell from the water leaks. After they got the car started the dash and marker lights went to flashing and when they turned the car off and made sure the light switch was off the passenger tail light was still on steadily. Her dad ended up unplugging the harness for the passenger side lights and restarted the car and the rest of the blinking stopped.

After doing some research this morning and reading that there is a real major issue with the body design of the front end of the Mustangs and looking first hand, I noticed that their is ice currently along both front pillar sections of her car. Being that the water leaking from the pillar seems to be a well known issue Ford knows about and has known about. I think there needs to be a recall done to have all the Mustangs fixed of this problem. It's not just a water leak in my eyes as a firefighter of 20yrs, but it's more of a safety issue being if there is enough water leaking to cause electrical malfunctions then there is enough to cause an even more serious problem, like a electrical fire either just sitting in the driveway or while someone is driving the car in a rain storm. Kinda sad how these companies find out and know about issues that could very easily be major safety issues and do absolutely nothing about it except to charge people even more money to fix their problem they created. I'm quite sure Ford knew of the majority of the issues with the modular Mustangs before they were even released. Kinda hard to say they didn't being they had fixes for the tsb's once they came in from the dealerships with cars having less than two thousand miles on them.

That is why I say that the water leak issue should be a safety recall along with a class action lawsuit being I'm quite sure they were aware of this along with many other issues they've been having with the cars.

Well to be earnest with you, I had Ford all my life and more then proud of it. But last month, when both this Mustang 2006 convertible 4.0L V6 manual, I was completely frosted when my son came back for the first time car-wash. He said, Dad! I never saw a leaking Inside of the car like this! It was on right passenger side under the dash, the carpet was full of water. Now I am stuck with this problem, will call Ford dealership tomorrow, and get back with solution or recall. Serge Benoit, sirderekbond7@videotron.ca

I noticed my tail lights weren't working and took the car to the Ford Dealership for repair. I had already tested with test light and found no current at the plugs in the trunk area. The service writer told me the Smart Junction Box had shorted out and there was significant water in the passenger floor board. They got all the water out ( approximately 1 to 2 inches ) and let the carpet dry for two days. They said the cause was the drain below the windshield had stopped up and the water followed the wiring to the SJB and caused the short. Problem not covered under any recall. The poor workmanship and engineering from Ford cost me over $900.00.

Mustang Convertable V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

after days of reading storys on the web, it seems there is no fix for the water leak that comes from under the dash on the passenger side, I have cleaned the drian plugs, checked for dirt and leaves, replaced cabin air filter, that is where the water comes in, its just a poor design, if you car is faceing up hill it will cause water to fill up in the cabin air filter intake, this will result in lots of water coming out from under the driver side dash, this could result in many electrical problems, I have had my 2006 mustang convertable for a year, did not leak until the last couple of months, but today my rear quarter panel is now full of water and is sloshing, I read on a forum that the dealer told one person that the panels on the firewall are not sealed right from the factory and that when you call ford they claim not to knoe abouy the problem, So i called and he was right, they claim to not have a customer complaint issue, but i asked why 1000's of people are on web forums claiming to have the same problem and that they have called she had no answer, Here is the deal CALL FORD and COMPLIAN, if enough people call they will have to do something!!! There is no fix, the panels need to be seal right or the problem just comes back, I have read where people have taken there cars 4-5 times to the dealer and still have the water leak, keep it in the garage , if it does leak pull the mats and vacum the water out and run the heater on floor on high for a couple of days, if the water gets to nthe fuse panel by the passenger foot well it could be a nightmare!! GOOG LUCK, Time to sell.!

Just really confusing to me..convertible top that the back window separates out after 5 years and will cost me $1525.00 to fix. Ford seems to think that is reasonable. I had my Ranger pick up for 15 years bfore giving to my son...will I need to replace it twice more in the next 10 years? The separation flooded my interior and caused damage to my carpet; not just that musty moldy smell but caused the carpet to tear right in front of the back seat. I didn't use matts for a couple of months to allow water to dry up and the front driver side carpet is ripped. Will I need to replace that twice more in ten years?

I'm still making payments on the car!

There is a water leak in the front passenger area. Numerous TSB's out on this type of problem and dealer says it is most likely plugged drain due to tree residue. I hardly think so. No other vehicles experience this and they are parked in the same areas daily. Service was good and problem supposedly remedied, but to tell me it was not related to the TSB's is an insult.
