I was driving one day and the O/D light started flashing. Did a simple google search to find out that this was most likely a transmission issue. Went to the transmission guy and the man said that this is very common for this type of transmission to have issues. He said that the transmission in the mustangs are found in Ford Explorers that always have transmission issues. This isn't due to wear and age, but an issue ford won't own up to. Cost me $2,500 to have it rebuilt.
No signs of the transmission failing. One day it decided to not shift at all. Took it to a mechanic, had to replace the sprags, planetary sets, torque converter, drum, bands, etc.
I drive this car like any other car, I dont race it, I dont drag with it. It is simply my everyday car and I treat it like a baby. I had a whistle noise at 2nd gear and brought back 3 times to the dealer and complained to ford. They replaced the transmission valve cover and it did not make the noise go away and they told me that was a normal sound on that car (the dealer and Ford). 1 month later, the transmission is dead and the dealer is replacing the tranny today. Thank god it is still under power train warranty or I would have been really screwed.
