Feels like the automatic transmission will not get into the right gear then "catches". Truck lurches and makes a horrible noise.

Ranger XLT 4.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

First started to shift harshly, then started to wind up RPM before it would finally shift. Problem was definitely worse in cold weather, but got to be bad in all types of weather in the end. Got it repaired at AAMCO for a total out of pocket expense of $2545.00. OUCH!!! Have driven about 250 miles now and it's not shifting right yet. This is the second valve body that has been replaced on this Ranger with only 75,000 miles. This can't be right and FoMoCo should really do something about it.

Ford's Ranger transmission is pure sh*t. Ford knew they had a problem, tried to fix it, their wrench monkeys couldn't get it, now my warranty is up, and they tell me i'm SOL. I wouldn't buy another Ranger or Ford for that matter if you held a gun to my head
