I started the car and the pedal seemed to stick with the RPM erratic. I drove the car and it seemed to accelerate without pressing down on the pedal (RPM around 2500). This was continuously occurring.
I called my mechanic and he diagnosed and replaced the Idle Control Valve on July 6, 2016
I drove the car without a problem for at least three weeks before the issue occurred again.
While in reverse, RPM ran to 6000 RPM. I had to shut the car off before it destroyed my neighbors garage. The car was returned to the mechanic but ran normally. He tested the car twice and found no malfunction. he replaced theidlecontrol valve. We waited another three days for the part to come in. My husband picked up the car and had the RPM malfunction to 3000 RPM
After two scary incidents of having erratic acceleration problems, my husband picked up the car from the mechanic. He replaced the idle control valve twice. My husband picked up the car and had the RPM jump to 3000 RPM while driving and returned to the same repair shop while the car malfunctioned. He stopped the car and took a video of the RPM gauge at 3000 RPM. The car idled down to 2500 RPM and he drove the car to the same mechanic.
The mechanic then noticed the Cruise Control Cable was disconnected. He banged the idle control valve with a hammer and the RPM went down. The idle control valve was replace a third time with a Motorcraft part and the Cruise Control Cable removed.
We are now testing the car and have found no acclerator malfunction.
IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU AND FIND BRAKING DIFFICULT TRY PUTTING THE GEAR TO "NEUTRAL", AND PROCEED TO BRAKE.
I knew something was wrong when I was on the highway at 55 mph and the spedometer quickly jumped to 70. I braked back to 55 but it happened again. I pulled the floor mat and pulled the accelerator back with my foot. Pulled off the road and while attempting to brake became extremely difficult. I put the car in neutral and was able to brake but the engine idle in neutral continued to increase. I turned off the car and using my hands manipulated the gas peddle several times; started the car and it was normal again. not sure how to fix.

This vehicle 05 Sore-AS (Taurus) started out around 06 as the accelerator pedal would stick sometimes and it couldn't be pushed then all of a sudden it would go like a bat out of hell from something freeing up. All would work as normal until needing to take off again now and again. Now several years later 2012 the accelerator pedal is sticking in the mashed position (VERY DANGEROUS)! The vehicle is parked at the time until it can be inspected for a repair of this also earlier model Sore-AS problem.
This is what the PLASTIC part looks like when it will no longer hold onto the peg. Opened the cover and the cruise control cable was disconnected from the throttle. Looks like the PLASTIC part that holds the accelerator cable onto the mount is in bad shape too.
Hey FORD, this is DANGEROUS and could cost lives. Been driving Fords for 20+ years, but this may be my last.
The acceleration is sticking,would increase very fast,hard to stop. Very scarey,Hard to stop. Did not do it all the time,but on occation. No cooperation or belief from anyone on the problem. Trying to find out if this resulted in my wife having a car wreck and getting killed on Oct.8th,2010
Wonderful car, no other problems except the A/C, and it's been in two major accidents ($3000+ to fix). But this is annoying. Looking into a simple clean and fix now, hopefully it will work and I'll be sure to update it!
Update from Jun 22, 2010: I researched it online, and it was just a butterfly valve near the air intake. Cleaned it out nicely and it isn't sticking! Search accelerator stick and it should come up immediately!
The Accelerator gets stuck and the engine revs up. When I try to brake the whole car vibrates. When I get to a parking lot and put the car in park the RPMs jump to 4. The car is not safe to drive. This problem happens every so often.
about one year ago my 2005 ford Taurus started to accelerate by itself. i was unable to put my cruise control on and had to hold my brake down really hard to get my car to stop, but the engine would still keep revving up because my breaks were competing with my accelerator. my and my dad went to go get it fixed and the guy switched the cable hook up to the accelerater and put a new one on. it was fine for several months but it started up again the only way i have noticed to fix it is by popping the hood open and connecting the cable back to the accelerator and then wait until it happens again.. it sucks!
