Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

problem #10

Dec 202006

Windstar 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 3,800 miles

-the contact stated that while he was driving 35 mph the adjustable accelerator pedal became stuck to the floor. The contact depressed the brake pedal but, the vehicle continued to accelerate. This acceleration continued for a number of seconds. Then, the contact shifted the vehicle into neutral and applied the emergency brakes in order for the throttle to disengage. The road condition on the date of the incident was fairly dry, so contact feels that the weather condition was definitely not an issue. The contact took the vehicle to the dealership and they stated that they wouldn't be able to cover his vehicle under the NHTSA recall number 01V207000 due to the fact that his vehicle wasn't built until 06-20-01.

: the contact stated while driving 35 mph the adjustable accelerator pedal became stuck the floor. The contact depressed the brake pedal put the vehicle continued to accelerate. This acceleration continued for a number of seconds. Then, the contact turned off the ignition and shifted the vehicle into neutral. Subsequently the O2 light came on. This happens when the ignition is turned off at a high rate of speed, per the owner's manual. This happened on a winding two lane road why contact's wife and children were in the vehicle. There is NHTSA recall # 01V207000 regarding the accelerator pedal. The vehicle had the same problem as indicated in the recall; however, it is not included in the recall due to the VIN number.

Vechicle accelaration when foot is off gas. Pumping gas pedal did not stop this action. Pumping brakes or pressing hard on brakes do not stop action. Only placing the car in neutral and then shifting back into drive stop this action. Was on merritt parkway in ct when this occurred. This is the second occurrence for this vechile.

The location of the brake peddel in relationship to the gas pedal has resulted in the gas pedal being depressed when trying to brake as they are too close together.(my husband will no longer drive the van as this is a problem that occurs most often for him due to his larger shoe size.) additionally, the brake pedal is much higher than the gas pedal and my foot became tangled under the brake pedal, causing me to roll into on comming traffic when trying to stop while exiting from a parking lot. No accident occured as the on-coming traffic stopped in time to avoid my van.
