Brake pressure differential deactivation switch (2B264) located under the master cylinder (behind the air filter) over time developed a leak. My cruise control has stopped responding, and brake fluid is leaking at an exponential rate out of the reservoir above the master cylinder.

This is on a 2002 Ford Windstar. The brake pressure differential deactivation switch located under the master cylinder has developed a leak. This appears to be a know problem with the Ford Windstar but Ford has done nothing about it. Also, the ABS system failed due to heat build up. Again it appears that this is something that Ford has known. I also noticed that Ford escapes were recalled with this same problem so why not the Windstar?

2002 Ford Windstar brake and ABS warning lights sometimes come on while driving. Go off when engine stopped but may come back on during driving. No connection to speed, driving duration, or brake application. Happens on freeway and city driving with or without brake use. Intermittent problem for about 2 months, increasing in frequency. Newer brakes. Fluid good. 89,000 miles. Recently discovered this is a frequent ongoing problem for Windstar owners.

The brake light and ABS light on the dash will turn on. The brake system has been checked and no cause can be found. It is occurring when engine is hot. After turning off engine and restarting it, the lights will stay off for approx 10 min. Then turn on again. I am requesting a recall. Ford Motor Company has been aware of this problem for some time now, and so do you. This problem has caused fires in other Ford Windstar. Please force an instant recall.

We had recently purchased this vehicle and as we drove to ft. Wayne in the traction control light, ABS light, and brake light all came on. Now they come on every time I drive the vehicle. I was told that when this happens the antilock brakes will not work, this is a safety hazard. A Ford dealership wants $825 to fix something that I feel should be recalled.

Various warning lights coming on, ABS, brake light, odometer reading dashes only and overdrive lights started blinking while driving. Electrical diagnosis and pinpoint test by Ford found that the fuse blown due to the brake pressure switch leaking fluid through the wiring harness to the speed control servo and melting the servo. Two days after the repair, the ABS light and brake light started coming on again. Tested again by Ford dealer, they said it's a faulty ECU module.

Intermittent red brake light for a year or more. ABS would still work.. then smelled something burning in garage. Found wiring harness connector to ABS unit burned up. Vehicle battery dead. Red and yellow lights on all the time. Sure glad it didn't burn my house down.

While partially parked into the garage, after driving for one hour and sitting for half of an hour, smoke was observed from under van. Smoke stopped and noticed "ABS" warning light on. Brakes worked, but cruise control did not. Dealer installed/ replaced: 1) brake kit/ brake pressure deactivation switch, 2) ECM control module, 3) valve asy. 4) two wiring harnesses (one was a used from a Ford escape, due to the availability and cost.), 5) two fuses, 6) brake fluid and misc. Shop supplies. It was at the dealer for 11 days, cost for repairs was $1831. Drove it 5 miles and "check engine" light came on. The dealer stated this was not related to original problem. It was the dpfe sensor: $331 to repair. Normally the van is garaged, luckily something was in the way of fully pulling it into the garage and the fire went away quickly. Dealer stated it was a "catastrophic failure" and that the deactivation switch had nothing to due with the valve asy. Going bad/leaking causing a fire.

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. While driving between 45-55 mph, the engine began to lose power. The contact pulled into a Ford dealer and was informed that the brake cruise deactivation switch was leaking into the fuse box. The failure caused the speedometer to fail and the ABS and several other lights to illuminate. Recall number 05528 (deactivation switch) was referenced regarding the Ford Explorer. The current and failure mileages were 70,000. Update 09/10/08 updated 09/15/08.

There are three failures on my car that have happened within the last three months. The 2002 Ford Windstar only has 57,000 miles. 1. intake manifold gaskets leaking: Gaskets are sucking air in and not sealing properly 2. broken strut, this is the second time this has been replaced. The first time was within 10,000 miles. 3. ABS control module: The control module has been diagnosed and faulty by the dealership. About a $1,200 to replace. All these things should not be happening to a car that is maintained well, garage kept, and only has 57K miles on it.

Cruise control on 2002 Ford Windstar started working intermittently. Research online shows a defective switch on the master brake cylinder is a very common failure that causes this. This switch is used on many Ford vehicles and was subject of recall due to fire hazard. For some reason the recall doesn't apply to my 2002 Windstar yet, however.

Both brake light and ABS light are on during operation of the vehicle during warmer outdoor temperatures (spring, summer, and fall), and is usually off during cooler outdoor temperatures (winter). I had a Ford dealership tell me that the ABS control module requires replacement at a cost of about $600, and that the ABS system is not operating when the ABS light is on. I understand that this is a common problem for this vehicle and probably due to a poorly designed control module.

2002 Ford Windstar ABS (yellow) and red brake lights come on regularly for the past 2 years. This is especially true when the vehicle and outside temperature are hot. Has not resulted in an accident yet, but it is my understanding that the ABS system does not function when the light is on.

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the ABS, brake, and traction lights would illuminate intermittently while driving at all speeds. She took the vehicle to the dealer and the diagnostic produced error codes; however, they did not think that the failures were related to those codes. The dealer did not make any repairs and the manufacturer has not been notified. The current mileage was approximately 93,000 and failure mileage was approximately 89,000.

I have a 2002 Ford Windstar LX. Just this past January the lights have started to turn on. My ABS light, engine light, brake system light. There are 12-13 codes that show up for my brakes when diagnosed on the computer. I have new brakes all around, new rotors, new drums and when I go to stop the car squeals like a bus and grinds as though I have no brake pads at all. Shop says the only place I can go to get that fixed is the dealer where it will cost me about $1500 to fix. Who has that kind of money laying around? my engine light goes on because of supposedly some module inside the engine. That was estimated at $350+ to get fixed. The module supposedly is the reason why when the car is diagnosed on the computer, that it shows I have two bad O2 sensors. All I can say is wow!!! these Windstar are pure junk!!!
