My 2002 ford "piece of crap" windstar dies while i'm driving it. Its a mystery it seems as no mechanic including the Ford dealer can't seem to figure out why this is happening. I have told them all that this all started after the alternator got replaced but that seems to have no bearing on this problem to them. That is not of any importance at all. If anyone might have any ideas as to the solution to this problem please let me know.. I have spent 1000.00 trying to get this fixed and it is still dying.

My problem seems to happen most at 30 mph. when you accelerate. The engine wants to fall on its face. sometimes it dies or the rpms drop low but recovers quickly. it will make a squealing sound from under the hood when it happens. it rarely happens at high speeds but i noticed that cruising at highway speeds it will jerk sometimes.

The battery light came on, so I had it checked it was a bad alternator so I had them replace it. The day after I replaced it my wife was driving it and it the engine died, no power steering or anything she was able to get it off the road. She was able to turn the key off and back forward to start the engine again. It started fine and idles fine but if your driving it slow or at highway speeds it will stall on you without giving you any warning. Does anyone else have this problem. Any Solutions? The shop where they put the alternator said I should have a tune-up plugs, wires, throttle body cleaning, oil change ext. to a sum of $415 and they also said this problem had nothing to do with the Alternator or Battery. I have never had any problems with engine stalling or hesitation or anything like that. Please anyone with any suggestion please help me!!!!!!

We are as far as I know the second Car Dealer to try to repair the problem with this van. When driving at any and all speeds, 90% of the time under acceleration, the engine will sometimes jerk or hesitate and sometimes die all together, if it dies then it usually takes about 10-20 seconds of turning the key off and back on before it will start again. We have replaced the ignition coil, Alternator, Fuel pump, Fuel Pump Relay, Inspected the Fuel Pump shut-off Switch, Fuel Filter, Run several full tanks of gas through it, Battery, Crank Angle Sensor, Ran a new Ground wire for fuel pump. I wish the boss would take this damn thing back to the auction but he keeps insisting that I haven't done enough to diagnose and repair the problem. I have installed a fuel pressure gauge under the hood and temporarily hooked a test lamp to the fuel pump power lead. The last time the engine died and I had a friend crank the engine, there was no fuel pressure and the test lamp was off, until the third time we shut the key off and then cranked, the test lamp lit up, fuel pressure jumped to 40 psi and the engine started. I don't know if the loss of fuel pressure is causing the engine to die but it sure seems to be preventing it from starting it again. We're starting to lean towards a bad ECU Computer but that's supposed to be extremely rare. I think it's the only part left to change.....
