I’m very unhappy with my 2015 GMC Canyon which I purchase less than a month ago. I have put more miles on loaner vehicle than I have my new truck. Here are the issues I have suffered so far.

1. Tailgate slow fall mechanism did not work. As soon as I got it home I went to lower the tailgate and it fell straight down. I took it back to the dealer they gave me a loaner while they ordered parts and replaced the slow fall mechanism. In less than a week they had it fixed, but when I inspected their work I noticed they scratched the paint and the plastic bumper pads. They had to order the pads and gave me my truck back until they arrived.

2. During the wait for the bumper pads I noticed I had the steering wheel rattle, which for me was more of a squeak. When I brought the truck back in I notified them of the squeak and they promised to look into it. They gave me a loaner and I was on my way. A couple days later they notified me that the truck was ready and went to pick it up. Bumper pads look great and they fixed the paint, but as I drove off the steering wheel squeak was still there. I turned around and told them it was not resolved. They pulled a mechanic from the back to ride with me and listen to the squeak. He heard the squeak and they kept the truck and I was off in my loaner again. They called the next day to tell me it was fixed and that the service manager was involved. This time it was fixed.

3. After a week of having the truck back I noticed a sweet burning smell in the cabin. I thought it was just the lubricant they used to resolve the squeak in the steering wheel. While I was vacuuming the floorboard on the passenger side I put my hand down on the floorboard and noticed it was wet with a clear colored oily substance. I took it to the dealer today and they said it was engine coolant. It appears there is a leak in the heater core or the hoses that connect the heater core. It will require new carpet, padding and new heater core or hoses. They gave me a loaner and sent me on my way. Not telling how much stuff they will scratch and mess up during the removal and inspection of the heater core. I’m sure they may even have to remove part of the dash.

Needless to say, I’m very disappointed with my purchase and I don’t know what to do at this point. The truck has been with the dealer more than it has been in my garage. I don’t even think it’s a new truck at this point due to all the damage to the interior due to the leakage of coolant. I live in Texas and the lemon laws still slant towards the dealer favor. I just wanted to share my experience with others.
