The third light is encased in a large plastic air/water dam at the top of the rear window on an Envoy. GM has the brackets that hold the dam molded into the piece so that if the bracket fails you must get a new piece which I'm guessing is around $300 - $800 to replace. If this fails and you are driving at anything over 40mph the air dam will slap against the back window causing more brackets to bend. If the other brackets bend you get to replace the entire widow along with everything else! We found this out about 2 years ago when the same bracket broke while we were driving in MN at about 70mph. Thankfully we had just bought the vehicle and it was still under warranty so we didn't have to pay for that bill! GM has also used brass inside of these brackets which leads me to wonder if they knew of the possibility of the brackets failing!?
