We received the recall notice last week of Nov 2015. We took our car in for inspection on/about -5 Dec 2015. It was determined by the technician that the fuel tank was defective and required replacing. I totally understand the supply and demand for the fuel tank and the time it takes to manufacture one. What saddens me is after three weeks w/o my vehicle I request the use of a loaner. I was informed by dealership performing the service that none was available. I then call (GMC/. Buick Division) to request consideration for the use of a rental until such time my vehicle could be repaired. I was informed that this recall re-work does not justify a rental. The customer service went on to say even if they supplied a rental they would limit my use to local travel only. Rather than use this forum to vent I decided to thank GMC for helping me not to purchase another GMC product after owning three GMC vehicles. I think my money would be greatly appreciated with another Automotive Corporation.

Rational: My wife and I was informed that GMC did not consider the defective fuel tank as a part of the vehicle. ....We said the same thing. In all of my years in the Aviation industry if Boeing builds an aircraft and sub vendor supplies parts Boeing still has the responsibility if a malfunction occurs, this is a common practice. Lastly, Our Toyota Corolla experienced a recall for an air bag washer (passenger side.) We took our vehicle to the dealership, that same day we were provided a rental. Ironic: The Toyota tech told us it would take up to two weeks for the part to arrive. The next part the part came in we returned the rental an went on our way. Exercise self control and let your next auto acquisition/purchase, whatever you decided to pursue, now you are better prepared to ask specific question prior to the purchase. Do your home work please . Happy New Year!!!!

I had to replace my gas tank after it cracked, replacing my third fuel pump, heaters have stopped working, check engine light has been on for 2 years, 4 wheel drive works only when it wants to, and I have to replace at least on headlight at least every three months. I have had nothing but issues one after the other and have had to dump so much money into this car just to keep it going. All within the year i purchased the car.

I bought this expensive truck for $41,000.00+ believing that it will function to the outermost of my satisfaction. It did actually not until this gas leak started every time i fill up my tank for three consecutive fill up within 2 months. Starting last august 2015. I brought in to the dealer shop for oil changed and asked the service to check the smelling gas every time i fill my tank. It was found out that the gas was leaking from the top of the tank not specifically pinpointed the area at that time will the truck was up in the air. At first the mechanic told me that it will coat me $350.00 just to take down the tank to really find out the root of the problem. I left my car at the dealer and waited for the call of what was happening. The adjuster called me that it was necessary to change the tank and it will cost me $2100.00. I reasoned out why do I have to pay that much money to fix that tank, believing that the tank should last much longer than the engine, considering the amount of money I paid with this truck, $41,000.00+. Is there anyone there that experienced the same problem that I have, and did you pay from your own pocket to have it fix. Is there anyway I can direct this complaint for immediate attention, so I can get some help to pay this big amount of money from changing the tank? Total of $1,975 and change. Z i could be reach at my email: dacanlao1953@comcast.net. Please, i need your help. Thank you.

Well the smell of gas inside of my suv for several days and until one morning i went to start my car and notice fuel linking from my vehicle. Make long story short my fuel system needed to be replaced and the cost was about 645.95 i am very upset with this. Gmc should pay me some of my money back. A recall should have been called on this problem years ago. I am :-( and out of money. :-(:-(:-(:-(:-(:-(

2003 GMC does not allow me to pump gas. I've taken it to several mechanics to no avail. I'm being told by the dealer that the cost to repair exceeds the value of the car. The car reeks of gas all the time.

leaking gas, cracked gas tank filler neck leaking gas, cracked gas tank filler neck

Two problems: 1) The fuel neck weld to the tank failed and 2) one of the fuel lines out of the pump cracked causing gasoline to pool up on top of the fuel pump corroding everything metal. We had to replace the entire gas tank because the mechanic didn't feel it was safe to try and fix a plastic weld. And we had to replace the fuel pump and the fuel lines as well.

We smelled gasoline in the car but couldn't find the source since it was on top of the fuel tank. The mechanic couldn't find it either. Nothing was wet. One day I drove down a steep hill and noticed a trail of gasoline on the pavement behind the car. Looking underneath I found the entire tank was wet near the center of the tank. The incline allowed the gasoline to flow over the rim of the recess in the fuel tank where the pump is located. We figure there was a 1/2 inch deep puddle on top most of the time. The mechanic took the tank down and confirmed the problem. This was when he discovered the broken neck which seems to be an unrelated problem with the fuel system.

So we had been driving around for two months with a puddle of gasoline on top of the fuel tank which could have easily been ignited right below where where our two children are strapped into their car seats!

Here is the second or third problem that I found on my vehicle, I found that the check engine light on my vehicle was because there was a low pressure in the gas tank, so the mechanic told me right away the the gas tank had a crack in the neck, since he replaced a few of them in the past, the only bad thing is that the vehicle was out of warranty, and the gas tank was like $600 just to buy it. I almost make the mistake on buying a used one but the mechanic told me there was a few of them defective from factory, and there was no recall for it. So what I did is that I used JB welding and it seems to be working fine. The fuel and the odor is not leaking anymore. Now after a few months I got a letter in the mail with the recall on that problem extending the warranty on the tank up to 135000 miles free replacement. So I'm going to have it replace as soon as possible. Thank God I registered my car on the GMC website just to be notify on recalls, other wise I probably won't even know that they just came up with this recall.

I did not expect the filler neck to have a crack only 4 years into the ownership of a new vehicle. I am currently in negotiation with the dealer and GMC to see if I can get them to cover some or all of the repair.

The check engine light came on and the computer code said that the gas cap was bad. The gas cap was replaced and the computer was reset. Two weeks later the check engine light came back on. I filled the gas tank and parked the car in the garage. The next morning I smelled gas in the garage. I saw that gas had leaked out on the garage floor. I took the car to the dealer who said the the tank had a crack at the filler neck and the tank had to be replaced. This was not cover by a recall. After review I found that a lot of people were having the same problem. GMC is still looking at the problem. The dealer would not cover the obvious defect. GM has not called me back after 3 days.
