Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy XL. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, she attempted to accelerate further when the accelerator pedal depressed all the way to the floor. The vehicle began to surge forward until being shifted into neutral. The vehicle was then stopped and shut off. Upon restart, the vehicle operated as normal. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,000 and the current mileage was 79,061. Own a 2004 GMC Envoy and I have problems with the fuel gauge and the odometer. The fuel gauge goes past the F line when the vehicle is not on fuel. Also the odometer will stop working or get stuck on 10-15 mph. He happens often...every other day. I was told that it would cost 1400 to fix and a possibility it may not fix the problem.

While driving my N2004 GMC Envoy, myn speedomotor quit working and shows speeds over 100mps when driving. When in park, off or idling, the speedo needle is never at zero... it is at 30 or 40 mph during these times. I do no know how fast I am going.

Envoy XL 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles
I own a 2004 Envoy XL 2 wd. It has 40,000 miles on the odometer. On three different occasions the speedometer read zero while the car was above 40 mph. The speedometer remained off line until the next time it was stopped with turning off the ignition. Upon start up, the speedometer needle began to recognize the actual speed variations of the drive. Undocumented rates of speed could cause accidents. When will the next time when this recurs on the vehicle" will this and/or could this cause an accident"

On my 2004 GMC Envoy XL the speedometer has failed at about 39000 miles. It does not indicate an exact speed, sometimes it moves, sometimes it doesn't.

Envoy XL 4WD 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles
Speedometer was erratic. Sometimes registered higher mph than the vehicle was moving. Turning the vehicle off & restarting will bring it down by 10 mph each time. Very unsafe to be unaware of the speed you are traveling!

Envoy XL 4WD

  • Automatic transmission

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Envoy XL. While pulling into driveway at 5 mph the vehicle would not stop, it accelerated and then I hit garage. There was damage to the garage the garage door had to be replaced. The vehicle was damaged, the estimated cost to repair the vehicle was $5000. The vehicle is at the dealer. An investigation is ongoing at this time. When the tow truck came to pick the vehicle the driver noted that the brakes were all the way to the floor.
