My 2000 GMC pick up truck has a loud engine noise referred to as piston slap. The noise has been present since I purchased the vehicle. I have since found that this is a common defect with some GM engines. The dealer states that there is nothing wrong with my vehicle but many web sites describe it as a manufacturing & design defect. I believe this causes decreased performance and increased fuel consumption.
