I purchased a set of bf goodrich all terrain tires for my 1999 GMC Yukon. The left rear tire had a blow out after I drove the car about 12 miles since the new tire was installed at the discount tire dealership in burien Washington. The tire was a C load rated tire, size 265 16 R75. The entire sidewall of the tire blew out around the circumference of the sidewall. I have never seen a blow out with this characteristic. This was a very serious event and it occurred on a band new tire. The tire was defective and there are likely other tires with this same defect.

The contact owns a 1999 GMC Yukon. The vehicle has cooper discoverer H/T tires, size 275/70R/16 (na). The contact observed a slow leakage in the sidewall of the front passenger side tire. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the tire was replaced. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic on seven separate occasions for the same failure, but the failure still persists. The contact purchased a total of 11 replacement tires. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 110,000 and current mileage was 114,000.

I bought a new GMC Yukon that came with bf goodrich long trail size P245/75 R16 new on the Yukon. The summer of 2000 with around 12000 miles on the tires I had a blow out going around 70 on a rear tire. About a year ago I had one of the tires go bad/ had a bubble develop on the tread. This last weekend I had another tire develop a bubble on the tread. Last year the serial number from the bad tire was ap70hk11478. The blowout I did not get the serial number and the one over the last weekend I have not got the number from that tire at this time.

The complete tire id is 31520exbm2030T-2. the tire seperated in the sidewall at 70 mph on a strait rural highway at 60F temperature. I was able to control the vehicle enough to pull off the side of the road and replace the tire without incident. Just thought I should report it. There is almost no visable wear on the tire prior to the blowout.

Traveling down the interstate at 75 mph with my two children and husband, and the tread completely and fully seperated at the side wall of the tire. A policeman stopped right behind us and remarked that we must have Firestone wilderness tires on it because just about a week before an expidition had 4 fatalaties because of a blowout with the same tires, about 1 mile up the road. No one in our vehicle was injured in our vehicle. We had contacted our dealer, Chevrolet, othe tire stores, and Firestone/Bridgestone. All basically said that it was our problem and that we had better get them changed because they are "death tires" and Bridgestone hung up on us after they remarked that there is nothing wrong with their tires, it was because we didn't know how to drive a SUV. The tire failed without any warning and created an extremely dangerous situation and loss of control. The tread was completely separated and the complete tire was shredded. I contacted GMC and they assigned an incident number of 99294608 and advised me to contact a local dealer. The local dealer said that the tire was not covered under the GMC warranty and that I should contact the local Firestone dealer. The local Firestone dealer advised that the tire failure was due to road hazard and not a defective tire, in spite of the fact that the incident happened on an interstate highway and there was no previous road hazard occurence. The tire disintegrated due to a high speed blow-out. The tire dot number begins with W2 and Firestone kept the defective tire after I paid to have it replaced.( dot number: Tire size: P265R7016 )
