- the contact owns a 1995 Honda Accord. The contact stated that on 12/27/1997 the dealer installed a new SRS control unit. A few months after the repair, she began having problems with the SRS consistently engaging, and had the SRS reset on four different occasions since getting a new one on 12/27/1997. The SRS light continued to stay on. The contact stated that the last time it was reset was 2003, and a month later, the light turned on again, and it has been on every since. The contact stated that there was a safety recall on this component, but this vehicle id number is not included due to the VIN. The contact stated the vehicle could not pass inspection because of the SRS light being on. The contact would like the vehicle to be included in the safety recall. The consumer complained about an exhaust noise coming from the vehicle, so the dealer installed an exhaust kit. The thermostat and head gasket cover were replaced. The timing belt and cv joints were replaced. Updated 03/30/07.

The contact states the SRS light is on, and according to the dealership this controls the air bags on the driver's side and passenger's side. She noticed this in may-05. The contact took the car in to the dealership in June-05. It will cost $350 to fix the problem. It is not covered under the warranty because Honda told her this is normal wear and tear on the vehicle. The mileage on the car and the year of the car are also factors in determining the warranty coverage. The air bags never deployed. The car has never been in an accident.

On November 12, 2004, I noticed the SRS light came on and stay on the entire time that I drove the car. (it still does to this day.) on November 16, I took it to classic Honda of san marcos, tx--dealer #208339--for a check up. They informed me that the SRS control unit needs to be replaced. The vehicle is a 1995 Honda Accord station wagon, manufactured in January 1995. The mileage was 89,000 miles when the problem occurred. The owner's manual states "when the car is 10 years old, have the dealer inspect the [SRS] system." So the expectation is that the system should function normally for at least 10 years. The SRS system is one of the safety equipment, much like the seat belt. I know Honda has a lifetime warranty on the seat belt and the replacement muffler. I feel that the SRS system should carry a lifetime warranty as well because it provides additional safety. I called the manufacturer on November 22, 2004 to report the problem and asked them to pay for the control unit replacement. They denied. I have done some research through the NHTSA website and found that just looking at the first and last five pages of the complaints shows that the SRS indicator staying on has been quite common (I found 11 complaints). I found a complaint filed as recently as January 24, 2005. There was a recall notice 96V217000 out for replacing the SRS control unit. Was that recall out in September 1996, and what were the circumstances?

My SRS light has come on and when I had it checked by the mechanic I was told that the SRS control unit had failed and needed replacing, to the tune of ~$500. I researched your recall data base and found that a recall was issued in Sept of 1996 (96V217000). This recall replaced the SRS control unit. When I called Honda I was told that recall did not apply to my vehicle. My VIN # is [xxx]. while researching this problem I have discovered there are a lot of these units failing on Honda and I was wondering if this recall should have covered a broader universe of vehicles. Airbag sensor light keeps coming on after having dealer reset the system on two occasions. Consumer is concerned air bags may deploy. Why must consumer keep paying dealer $50 to reset system in which the sensor light reappears within 3 days up to one month. Air bag light came on again, took to dealer a third time and they reset system free of charge, light has not reappeared since.
